calling in CC lost or stolen
« on: February 13, 2010, 09:42:32 PM »
I rented a car from enterprise and returned it last week. During the rental period, I received a parking ticket on the rental car.
Would it help if I called in the credit card lost or stolen so then my CC number would change and Enterprise won't be able to charge me for the ticket amount?

On a side note: Is it bad in ANY WAY to call in a credit card lost or stolen?

bear in mind that they still have your license.
for example; red light camera tickets get sent to the address on the license in the first place (from experience)

No, but if happens often, and by sheer coincidence always joined with some disputes from respectable companies it might get the wrong ideas, especially if you are speaking with them on the phone, and you have a human reviewing your account....

As Moshke said, not worth the headache.

DONT mess with enterprise. It is not worth it. besides that I don't think there is an issue with calling them in stolen. I remember when the first iPhone came out an they were limiting ppl to buying them 5 per credit card. ppl were calling in their cc's stolen every day. literally every day

It will work, But you will never be able to rent from enterprise again. they will also probably keep sending bills to your house and collections agencies will call you phone 24-7... It is really annoying

i would be surprised if it works. (unless your license isn't straightforward. and then you hope that collections isn't to your credit score)

I know this thread is old, but from experience if a rental company has your card on file legitimately sometimes the charge will go through. You can call the cc and contest saying unauthorized charge on a cancelled card (which is what hsppened to me) but if the cc looks into it and finds out it's for a ticket you'll probably end up paying. By me Amex waived the charge as it was so small ($25) it wasn't worth it for them

I say it again, if you deserve the fine, and its not a fine which is astronomical, just pay, and get over with, and be more careful next time.

true but its a check mark on your acct, get a # of them and you wont get another, Id rather keep them for when I really need to use it

Ive had that happen to me and asked them to not do that but to carry on with the Dispute as I didnt want the vendor to keep the Money and by my CC simply crediting me the amount Im off the hook but the vendor would have still had the $$

How is he not opening himself up to CC fraud charges?
I know that the credit card will write it off, but enterprise may not, and once they call the card, and say that we have his photo ID, isn't that pretty risky? especially because of the paper trail- like paying for the flight into and out of the rental airport on the exact dates?
