Sounds crazy, did you ask them what that's based on?

Qantas always charges that.

Paging WhyAich....

I have had once where I did Qantas / Elal, and booked the award without the infant. Later contacted Elal, and they added the infant on the whole journey for $310.

Try contacting QF directly.

Wouldn't help too much, but would probably be in the $1000 range, instead if the $1500 range.

they told me it's $750 taxes (when im only paying $130 taxes on the adult milleage award) plus 10% of the full fare i guess (but they werent too knowledgefull)

i've flown before and it was always in the 300-400 range for the lap infant

i called qantas but they cant pull up the reservation (maybe cause aa just has it on hold and hasen't ticketed it yet)

ANY ANY advice?

First ask AA for Qantas's reservation locator, they always have a separate one.
Then, call back Qantas.

Checkmytrip.com should help you without having to call AA.

Anyone have any idea on how to get around the YQ for the infant ticket?

They want $680 YQ, as they say Qantas has changed the fare rules for infants as of 2/7/12 to include YQ on 10% infant fares. :(

If it involves also another partner like ELAL etc.., your best bet is to call them directly. Or contact any travel agent (WhyAich is outstanding in these stuff).

Recently had Qantas asking $1400 for a J ticket. ELAL priced it out @ $432..

Recently had this issue.
The AA infant pricing was significantly more expensive than even QF rip-off infant pricing for same itin.
I tried to book infant directly with QF, but they said that infant itin attached to AA mileage needs to be done through AA.
However, I didn't try HUCA with QF.

I wonder what will happen if you show up at the QF counter without an infant ticket?

I will never know... I just booked with miles, and finished.

HUCA works in these cases.

know someone that did this. they ripped him off with $1500 for an economy ticket, claiming the cheapest fare was $5K+, and added their stupid surcharges.

@SideIncomer, thanks for the recommendation.
@WhyAich, thanks for the offer to look into it.

So I originally had a reservation with AA but managed get convince the rate desk that the YQ shouldn't apply. That reservation expired Friday night though and I was not ready to book yet. I had made a new reservation on Friday but hadn't added the infant yet. So now I call to add the infant and they won't get rid of the YQ because of the newish rules (ITA prices it out including the YQ for the infant as well). So after 7 or so HUCA's I finally got someone at the Executive Platinum desk to "reinstate" my existing expired reservation and she got the rate desk to copy the original fare without the YQ :D (she was only able to reinstate the reservation because the seats were still available). And now I have another 5 days before I have to book :P

All's well that ends well, but it dosen't seem like promising future for infant tickets on QF from AA.

P.S. I am not 100% sure, but the Exec Plat agent seemed to say that the way the original agent got around the YQ was to add the infant as an award ticket and override the mileage to 0 and set the taxes to the amount of the infant fare minus the YQ... Which would make sense because online my reservation shows 3*75,000 instead of 2 like it did before, but when I call in they see it as 2*75,000 and an infant with taxes only... Dunno if this could possibly help someone in the future.
