I believe he wants to stay at the hotel as Plat, not use the stay as a way to become plat in the future.

i stay when its free.. when i have enough points but on this trip there is no more room @ gold status but if i was platinum they would give me a room in dead sea for 3000 points a night

There is no difference between Plat & gold. As long as there is a standard room available for sale, ANY spg member can book it for points. If a standard room is not available, plat's cannot book any points stays either

But plat concierge will often call to get inventory opened.

Not so easy by Dead sea if there isnt a standard room available (even with plat)

there are no room avail in august besides fri night so i had a plat member call and spoke to a manager and "made" a few nights of standard room avail...........

the plat member spoke to a manager in spg .
i got this email from spg one confirming the points taken and the other as i quoted before.
takes 48 hrs for hotel conf.
