Its been said a couple of times in this thread,  but I don't mind saying it again  ;) , the above statements are true but only help for permission for the additional drivers to drive the vehicle.  but for insurance purposes - many times the T&C state that only drivers listed on the contract are covered.  .

So as much as hertz doesn't mind,  it won't help in case of an accident c"v.
Thanx for the chazoro :-P Is that something which can be verified beforehand? Meaning, can I just call Amex Insurance and ask what their requirements are for covering an AD?

in jfk they wouldnt let me add another driver under 21. he tried but said the system doesnt let it go through. so we switched the primary driver and added another driver who was under 25. in a hle in florida i had the same problem. the system wouldnt let another driver be added who was under 21. guy said dont worry about it.

employees of that business can drive if they are on company business. so two problems. hard to say you are an employee of usaa and that you are on company business
I didn't know you can switch the primary driver. I shouldve thought of that when I had a problem

only worked that time bec i was using a free day voucher, so didnt matter what the rental would cost. (in other words, i made a new reservation on the spot) but you can prob talk the agent into giving you the same rate

Just spoke to 2 different reps with amex insurance and apparently you're right. The additional driver must be listed on the contract. I will call mastercard and visa insurance next. ::)

btw unless they request a police report how would they know who was driving when the damage occurred?

Of course they request the police report. How would they even know that the accident occurred in the first place?

a rep from my chase card said they don't necessarily ask for a police report

lets say you just make a dent you need a police report?

Dent isn't an accident. I think the cc would want to confirm that it was your fault before they start paying out for it.

Update: Mastercard and Amex REQUIRES the AD to be listed on the contract to be eligible for coverage while Visa does NOT require as long as the AD is not violating the terms of the car rental company. I researched the above online and confirmed it with a 2 separate reps. I hope this clears up some confusion in this matter.

I copy pasted from USAA's website for hertz: "No Additional Driver Fees for spouses and USAA family members.

1 - Does "USAA family members" mean that anyone who is a USAA member is part of the 'family'
2 - does it mean that my family member can drive the car if that family member is also a USAA member
3 - does it mean that my family member can drive the car even if that family member is NOT a USAA member

And don't forget the question of all times: Are the USAA rental car benefits strictly for military and families or even to non military? And if it is only for the military than how is it that a civilian can 'register' with USAA?

If so, then if a few friends are renting a car, only one of them would be able to drive even if all of them are USAA members.

hertz t&c for usaa corp is that any usaa member can drive without being on the contract
