However, I believe insurance is cheaper if you own

Never heard that before, nor does it seem to make sense.

If you pay upfront, what is the bank doing?

Leasing you the car...

What part of it is the bank doing? Buying the car and waiting 18 months to get the rest of the cost back?

Never heard that before, nor does it seem to make sense.

Never heard of that either,  but maybe what he's referring to is that with a leased car you're required to have collision insurance, as opposed to a car that you own.

No link right now but there are certain insurance minimums that are necessary for a lease

Even so, that doesn't make the actual insurance cheaper. It just means you aren't required to have certain add-ons.

A person leasing who needed/wanted A-B-C from an insurer would pay X, just like a person who bought who wanted/needed A-B-C from an insurer would also pay X.

Yes I understand that. I was just suggesting what he possibly meant.

Probably what he meant. Although if you own an expensive new car you probably want collision as well

Nope, didn't mean that at all, just what the insurance agent told me

Be interested to hear if that's true and, if so, the underlying rationale.

My Hyundai Sonata that I bought used has a 5 year 60K Bumper to bumper warranty. Bought new there's a 10 yr 100K warranty! Plus, the way cars are built these days, there's not much maintenance in the first 8 years anyway.Even if they aren't a current Infinity owner? And after tax? A lot of these numbers thrown around here in the low $200's aren't the final numbers.

Well, although that is a 100k *powertrain* only warranty, right?  Most things that go wrong are not with the powertrain.   And any car will need new tires, brake pads, air/cabin filters, etc. one or more times in that long of a period.   With all that said I am playing devil's advocate a bit just to make sure we look at all the factors - I think what you did with your Sonata is financially still going to win out almost every time (over leasing a new Sonata every couple years).   But I wouldn't perhaps want to keep a German car for that long.

It's Korean

I know, I meant your argument to buy and hold may not work nearly as well with say a German car like Audi or BMW, because of the significantly higher costs to repair and the lower reliability.
