Shabbos in HKG or BKK?
« on: July 08, 2012, 02:33:47 PM »
I'm planning a trip to Thailand for about 10 days. Will be using 2-3 days traveling back and forth to the US, my question is should I stopover and spend Shabbos in HKG or go straight to BKK? From reading the reviews here it seems BKK is more "happening" with 200-300 people at a meal. HKG on the other hand sounds more laid back.

Another part of this question is how stark the differences are between the 2 places.

Chabad of HKG had some of the best food I've ever had over shabbos and from what I hear KZ in Kowloon does as well.

However the atmosphere in Thailand is what you're going for not the food.  Personally I'd recommend Chiang Mai over Bangkok though.

I was in Kowloon for Shabbos and to give you a small pic of what the food is like, for the first course they start with huge sushi platters.

Besides for the awesome and insane quantities of food I actually left the HKI chabad quite inspired, the rabbi is a great speaker.

Thanks. If I'm looking for a more quiet/relaxed atmosphere will either Bangkok or Chiang Mai work?

BKK and CNX are not what you want then, stick with HKG.

Thanks. One last question, are the HKG hotels near the jewish area more expensive (either with points/ $$)  than the hotels in CNX?

Significantly more expensive, though it does depend on whether you want to be in Kowloon or Hong Kong Island.

Typing in random dates with F&F at the ICGS HKG is pricing at $250 with tax for me.
Vs. LM CNX for 1,600 SPG+$30.

Anyway the W HKG is the place to be, though not for shabbos.  One of my favorite SPG properties by far.

Wow. Rate seems to really have jumped. Last two years its been very easy to get it at HKD 900-1100. Seeing it now for HKD 1400+.
