Whaddya mean renewal? If you're eligible to get the bonus again why wouldn't you do SPG again?
I mean the annual fee just hit. Don't want to apply for the SPG again right now.

Does the yearly limit on returns end with the calendar year or with the cards anniversary?

Just FYI:

I opened a new SPG number with new address, and applied for another SPG card (i still have the old Personal & Business where i got the bonuses) and didn't get anything for the first purchase, it's been over a month already

As Dan said earlier there's a better chance you'll get the bonus for spending 5K then the first bonus.

Sure, but still what would be the logic behind this?

But....Quote from offer page...TERMS AND CONDITIONS: .......  Stays must be booked and paid for with any eligible American Express Card.  After booking, you should receive a confirmation email stating that you have met the promotion requirements and are eligible for the $150 statement credit from Orbitz Worldwide. The $150 statement credit will be applied to the American Express Card used to book the original reservation. This credit will be applied 5-7 business days after the check-in date of your booking.  Statement credit is non-transferable. Fulfillment of the offer is the sole responsibility of the participating American Express merchant. .
...it could go either way..
who is going to wing it and let us know...
maybe we can get AMEX back for cutting SBS :)

Very helpful! I'm just not sure how we'd go about doing it in this case.

My SPG Annual fee just hit, any chance of getting points as retention and then cancelling?

Call, it seems unless you're doing a lot of spending you'll probably only get about 1K. Once your points post you can cancel your card.
