I have the Starwood preferred guest card. I tried speaking to 2 reps to get the annual fee waived but they refused. So is my best option to just cancel? If I transfer the SPG points to BA Avios , do I need to use the points right away or can it sit in my BA account for a while?

Once your SPG points are in your Starwood acct, I do not think that they will be removed once you cancel your card.

The one use that he may be confusing with his cc is those who earn their gold status via spend, and then cancel. Those accounts may be downgraded to preferred status.

However, once you've legitimately earned your SPG points and paid your cc balances, those points are yours.

Don't know if this is newsworthy, but a few days after receiving my first SPG consumer for 25,000 several weeks ago, I asked if I could be matched to the 35,000 offer my friend had received (which had expired). The rep told me she could start an inquiry, but gave me 3,000 starpoints as a courtesy meanwhile. I called back the next day and the rep said they don't match offers, when I asked if I could receive courtesy points she said she could see that I'd already received some. But the next day I called and asked if they offer points for adding AUs, the rep said no, but I'll deposit an extra 3k as a courtesy! Both sets of 3k posted immediately.

Scare tactic, though I'm surprised, SPG reps have been by far the most accommodating amex reps I've dealt with

Earlier reports are they can only downgrade to other co-branded cards, such as a Delta card, which also have AFs. There was a report of a rep who said she can downgrade to a BC, but upon review it took a HP
