What's retention, SBS?
Retention is when you get points for having to pay the AF and SBS is an AMEX promotion.

Does it make any sense to close this card and open a new Business Blue card to get the 10k welcome bonus points or just change my amex spg to it and not make the welcome bonus points.? Does closing a card ruin credit score?

Is it possible to merge SPG Numbers? And would that also be the case if you had an SPG number and your spouse has a different number, could they merge those accounts as well?

On a sidenote, would this work for other hotel/airline member numbers?
You can merge your own spg accounts and transfer points between accounts with the same address.

Every ff program is different.

No.  You can change your address, transfer points, then change add back.

You can't merge accounts that aren't yours just transfer the points.

Is that how you are suppose to do it? Have a different address on your second SPG number in order to get the bonus?

That makes more sense to me now.
Just to clarify: you can transfer points between accounts that share the same address - correct?

Thats not what I was replying to.  All I said is if you want to transfer SPG points from your friends account to yours- change your address to his account, transfer points, change address back.

If applying for another SPG number with a different address in order to get the bonus will work or not...I was not talking about.  I dont know if it will work.

It will be a PITA to go through verification if you don't have the right documents.

Retention is when you get points for having to pay the AF and SBS is an AMEX promotion.

Retention can be when you get a statement credit for $ in the amount of the annual fee. It can be points given for certain spend in addition to waiving or crediting the annual fee .
It depends on which banking institution you are talking about and can vary bewtween customers .

Unless of course Dans has its own definition of " retention "  in that case : My Bad !

Starwood Amex Churning
« Reply #312 on: January 22, 2013, 12:26:58 PM »
Hello,

I opened a starwood consumer card and I was supposed to get 10,000 points but apparently they took my points back.

Redeem   -10000   01/22/2013    SPG AX 1ST USE PRE 30SEP06
Earn   +10000   01/22/2013    SPG AX 1ST PURCHASE CNSR (AX)

Is there anything I can do to get my points back?

I would appreciate your help on that.

Thanks!

JMT

Why'd they take the points back? Did you cancel the card or return your purchases?

I have no idea why. That's why I am asking DDF as I thought some of you might have had a similar experience...

Thanks!

Just a guess from what it says but did you ever get the bonus before? Like how about on 09/30/06?
