I've had the SPG since July 2010. Would I be able to get the signup bonus again if I don't include my SPG # on the app? Should I downgrade my current card first? Or am I out of luck because of the 12 month rule?

If it's a personal, do a biz; if biz, do a personal.

YMMV. Dan has gotten multiples. Is it a second biz/personal or is it a different class than the first?

Mazal Tov on your approval :)

I had 3 personal SPG open last year at the same time and got bonus on all three (to be clear - they were OPEN at the same time but not OPENED at the same time).  My wife had one open and when she applied for a second (last fall) she got the card and spent the money, but was denied the bonus.  It seems like around that time they got much more serious enforcing the requirment that you may not get the bonus if you had the same product active within the past 12 months.  I think before fall 2012 the chances were much higher you could get the bonus without closing the card and waiting a whole year.

I'm thinking about applying for the SPG business card.  The only other business card I've ever had is Ink Bold.  I had to answer two phone calls from Chase to explain about my business, including revenue and expenses, profit, monthly spending etc.  Then it took another two weeks to get the approval.  Will I have to jump through these hoops with Amex too?

IME Chase is more thorough in questioning for business cards. I've been approved with much more ease for Amex business cards. Even with HUCA they don't question much.

Churning Amex Spg
« Reply #370 on: May 21, 2013, 11:02:39 AM »
Hey,

I am relatively new to this forum so I'll keep it as short and clear as possible.

I signed up for my first Amex spg card 3 months ago, I am almost done completing the threshold for 25k points.

I wanted to know what I should do after I complete the threshold to churn another card? I was told different things: One, that I can only sign up for 1 spg a year and another that I could get away with maybe 2-3 a year.

I am really looking to up my game with hotel cards :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

You only receive the sign-up bonus if you didn't have the card within the last 12 months. Business and personal don't overlap.

Thanks Shmulyg,

So I am going to consolidate the credit line of my spg after the points clear onto another amex card and sign up for the spg business and a few other cards with a 2 or 3 bm. Would that be the preferred method?

Amex doesn't let you shift credit lines until your card is 13 months old.

Sounds good.

Oh interesting, so just close it then huh? Which reminds me, how much total credit should a person hold? (I.e Someone who is 40 and makes 60k a year could have 100k total credit? What is the ratio before a F/R?

Awesome!

Thanks for the heads up, 2bm it is :)

Not sure about an F/R, but 60k income with 100k CL makes you susceptible to a Chase A/A.
