AP is it's own risk, so follow the AP best practices. But as far as Amex is concerned, you should be OK.
AP is shutting folks down right and left... its not an amex issue anymore

Correct but let it post before you pay it off. Many here will tell you this will cause a FR. IMHO and IME this is not the case. Other more important factors are at work that causes this. If just received your first Amex card and plan on churning your CL 10x the first month then you should expect a FR. Also if you were truthful on your app a FR is actually a good thing.

PSA: Please only try this if you have a long credit history. I would hate to see anyone shutdown.
Thank You!

I thought I read that when opening an SPG amex with additional user cards that each card is eligible for the bonus on its own...is that correct?

Dan - I am having the same issue as someone else who mentioned this earlier. I applied for a starwood business and spg for me and my wife (4 cards total) during the big promotion over the summer. I hit my spends on all 4 but they are saying you can only get one 20k bonus per cardmember. I chated with multiple agents and they seem to be holding the line. is there anything else to do?

When my free year was almost up, I downgraded my spg card to a free blue card. If I want to apply for a new spg, do I have to wait for 12 months since the downgrade, or do I have to cancel the blue card and wait 12 months? TIA

I am going away for the weekend, I really want the executive suite. I am a SPG gold member so upon availability I should be upgraded from the junior suite to the executive suite. Should I just book the junior suite and risk there not being an executive suite available for upgrade? Or has anyone ever booked a junior suite and an executive suite on 2 different names and if the upgrade is available I can cancel the reservation for the executive suite(Cancellation policy for this hotel is 6PM day of reservation)?

So whats the answer? Does one have to wait, if so how long?

Thanks.

UPDATE Backstory: my wife needed a flight to Israel last minute and transferred SPG points to Delta (please, spare the comments on Skypesos being worthless and how wasteful it is to transfer SPG points to Delta.  When you're in a pinch and you need the flight and SPG is the currency that will take you there, Skypesos fit the bill when others couldn't in this situation).  After she made the transfer, she got the confirmation that it could take "up to four weeks" to transfer the points.  It's Sunday night, and she needs to fly out next Monday (7 days).  Needless to say she was upset, and rather anxious.

The possibilities we considered were: (1) waiting to see if the points would transfer within two days, as reported by numerous users; (2) call SPG and request the transfer be expedited; (3) call SPG and request that the transfer be cancelled, since the points didn't yet post to Delta.

A wrinkle thrown into the mix: the Delta flight was 145K points, and she needed to transfer 120K SPG points to get it.  Since you can only transfer 79,999 SPG points in any 24-hour period, she would have to make 2 transfers 24 hours apart at 60K a piece.  She was nervous that even if the first transfer would post in 2 days, the second transfer might not post in 2 days, or the award flight would no longer be available by the time the points transferred in 3+ days.

We decided to call SPG.  My wife spoke with a very helpful agent who explained that, unfortunately, the transfer could not be expedited. While transfers normally cannot be canceled, she would be able to cancel my wife's transfer because the transfer was made recently (only a few hours prior).

The points were back in her SPG account 2 mins after she hung up with the SPG agent.

My wife ended up booking through SPGflights.com, which again, I realize is not a good exchange rate for the SPG points, but when the flight is necessary and it gets her to Israel on time, and it makes her happy, it's worth every penny in my book.

Lesson learned: When in a pinch, it's always worth calling the agent to ask.

I just had my first late payment with amex. It was a small payment- under 100 on a 8k limit.

How should i proceed? (Obviously i paid it off by now, but i got a letter from them).
