How long does it take for spg points to come in to my account after first purchase on the Starwood card?

Not too long usually it posts by Amex 1-2 after charge clears and then about 1-2 days after it will be in your SPG account.

Yes. Once they post to SPG you won't lose them.

Could someone help me understand this statement below (I may be overthinking as well):

I applied and received my Amex SPG in early January, so after reading this, I am interpreting it as getting "2 stays towards your Starwood Preferred Guest elite status and credit for 5 nights toward your Starwood Preferred Guest Elite status" times 2 as the statement says "upon opening...'and,' by February 15th..." Am I correct or is it just one time?
And, can someone elaborate on what exactly "2 stay credit and 5 night Elite status credit" are? What's the difference? Is one a point equivalent while the other is actual stays??? Thanks in advance.

Upgrade Your Status
Upon opening your Card Account and, by February 15th of each subsequent calendar year it is open, you will receive from Starwood credit for 2 stays towards your Starwood Preferred Guest elite status and credit for 5 nights toward your Starwood Preferred Guest Elite status. This benefit is limited to one annual 2 stay credit and one annual 5 night Elite status credit per Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card account. You will not receive additional 2 stay or 5 night Elite status credits if you have multiple Card Accounts. Credits and status are subject to the terms and conditions of the Starwood Preferred Guest program.

I know that with chase if you change the FF # you can keep getting the bonus on cards. Can you enter a new number on SPG cards, to sign up before the 12 month period?

you don't actually get free stays. you get 5 nights that are applied to status stays.

How long after a transaction do the points show up? Do I need to pay off the balance first?

Also, in general, say my balance is $1,000, and the closing date is Feb 17th, I should pay $999 and leave the $1 until after the 17th?

Thanks!

How long after a transaction do the points show up? Do I need to pay off the balance first? Bonus points usually show up 1-2 days after transaction clears. Regular points show up when the statement closes. Both regardless of paying the balance.
Also, in general, say my balance is $1,000, and the closing date is Feb 17th, I should pay $999 and leave the $1 until after the 17th?
That's probably the best way to do it.

Awesome, thanks so much.

Is there any way to get the referral points if I have the personal card and the referral needs a business card? Would calling help?

I have an SPG personal I opened back in July, and the SPG business I opened in November. I need to cancel the personal if I want to get the signup bonus again, and need to wait 12 months from the closing date, correct? Is my research correct that this card isn't churnable except in a handful of cases?

not sure if other people experience this or notice this but today i looked at my spg account and noticed 20k worth of subtractions...i called spg and they said it was done by amex usually if the consumer returned something etc...i have returned a few things in past month maybe equaling $2k not 20k! not sure if this is some time of F/R?? i have used the card for VR about 1-2k a month since august. also i got rid of my personal card to downgrade to BC and only have the business open now...most spending was on personal and here it looks like they were subtracting it form the business one (maybe bec thats the only 1 open not sure) anyone ever see this?

They don't clawback points from F/R.

You should call and inquire.
