I got Gold via the actual 10-stay/25 night requirements, however, I highly recommend achieving SPG Gold/Plat.
Gold gives you:  4:00 pm check-out (often that's almost like having another day)
YMMV -- you may get one or two of your choice of: Enhanced suites based upon availability, Bonus points/amenities, 250/500 pts, free welcome drinks, free wifi

You can read all about SPG Gold here: https://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/account/member_benefits/gold_preferred.html
Platinum benefits here: https://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/account/member_benefits/platinum_preferred.html
what is this 10-stay 25-night to get upgraded you speak of?

To get Gold status without calling or having Amex Platinum.

I had a 30K offer in my SPG account last week and now its gone is there any way to get it from them. I called and they said that the current deal is 25K
I also had the offer showing earlier today when I signed up for a SPG account, but it's not showing anymore. What did you do in the end?

Did you see it in the morning when you signed up and then it was gone later? Maybe I should make another account

Yeah, I saw it right when I signed up and then not after (same day even). I was thinking about waiting till I'm going to apply and making a new account- if you did that first let us know how it goes :)

Any ideas how to identify the date I closed an Amex card? I can't find the email. I probably held onto the card a bit after my minimum spend, but want to check the exact date...

why not just call up AmEx. They have you on file anyway and their service is great. IMHO

I finally tried making myself a new account to see if there would be the 30k offer there and it was there. I was approved and now lets see what happens

one can sometimes get that by calling and requesting gold, but perhaps not every year. And, will not work towards platinum -- Need to build that up with actual stays.

If you spend 30K you can earn Gold status, or you can just call and ask nicely! :D

Instant approval of spg and Premier rewards gold card on 2BM. First amex cards...Trying to figure out how to max out sign up bonuses before they disappear. I have great credit. What else would you experts recommend applying for before its too late? I saw something about applying for an SPG personal and biz to get double the Signup bonus but I can't find the Linky. TIA!!

Do you know something that I don't?... Signup bonuses are not disappearing, not by a long shot. You probably mean the new Amex rule effective 05/01, that one can only receive a signup bonus once-in-a-lifetime per card type. But since these are your first Amex cards, you have nothing to worry about and you will still be able to get signup bonuses after the rule goes into effect.

Well now I've opened them so I believe I'll no longer be able to get sign up bonuses for these 2 particular cards.

Correct but the business card is a separate product so no need to rush into that.

I believe that at least you will get them now.
It may be a choice of either now or later, so generally now looks good....
Plus, who knows what glitches may come up in May for certain apps?

We can take it one month/one statement and one bonus (or 3) at a time...
