it should work if you both live at the same address and that's the address on file.

Yes, done it many times.

According to SPG.com, it seems you need to share an address but relationship seems irrelevant.

if that's the case, then can we have 8 people at the same address and share/transfer points for free? (good for reaching plat status...)

You can reach plat status with credit card points?

no, but with a lot of spg points in one acct, you can get a lot of free stays (or Cash & Points) at Starwood hotels, but you actually have to stay there -
and if you hit 50 nights in a year, you have platinum status plus some certificates for upgrades.

yes - that's exactly why the bonus points help pple reach platinum.  cash and points are sometimes hard to find, but it stretches your points so you can make it. the prob is that i think it goes by calendar year, so it's hard to reach 50 nights if you start now, but even gold status (10 stays in a calendar year) is worth it for late check-out and room upgrades and bonus spg points at every check-in.

yes! Starwood is one of the best cards, imo...  It provides the amex return protection and it also now has bonus transfer points to AA and USAirways as Dan just posted on DDMS this week:

Starpoints are the most valuable currency out there even if you don't care for hotels, i.e. airline miles transfer at a 20:25 ratio and more.

Thanks. Yeah I have gold from spending 30k. 50 nights is insane I don't get half that much vacation lol.

What if I booked a room for someone else from my account using points and he stayed? Does that night count for me?

yes, they count that towards the 50 nights (and sometimes it's as low as 1500 pts plus $30 for a room). best if you have both your name and his name on the reservation.

i.e. you first sign up online at spg.com with your points and then you call the hotel to add a second person to the reservation. He can show his ID upon check-in and you're all set. You also get bonus spg points with each stay. And, more spg points when you use your starwood card for starwood hotel charges/purchases.
