I upgraded to gold using platinum card. I never stayed in a spg hotel. It says I have 2 nights left to re-earn gold and 17 to earn platinum. Does this make sense?

yes - Need total of 10 stays for gold and 25 stays for platinum status. Even if you haven't stayed, they start you off with 5-8 stays when logging in or using your amex. So it's often very quick to get to gold. Sometimes they will roll it over to the next year. it's good until 2/2015
you may like many of the starwood locations. The Sheratons are better than the Four Points in many cases even if it's only a 1K cost diff, they are more upscale. the Westins and "W"s are pricey but great locations and customer service.

Thinking about applying for SPG Amex.  What else to add to the 3BM?

Thanks. Yeah I have gold from spending 30k. 50 nights is insane I don't get half that much vacation lol.

What if I booked a room for someone else from my account using points and he stayed? Does that night count for me?
Once you spend the 30k do they send you an email to notify you that you have reached Gold Status? and is that Gold Status Life Time Gold or just for that year?
I am not 100% sure about this. But I am going to click it anyway.

Its only for that year and the next year I believe, its definitely not lifetime.

Should i be wary of a hard credit pull when transferring credit from one amex to another?

I think brokers are paying around 1.7 per point and that would be $119

that sounds low for a 7K (Cat 3?) room. Most retail for over $199. Maybe he can pay $149 as a deal. sometimes there is a availability for cash & points, may be cheaper.

the room goes for 170
no C&P available for those dates
I don't mind giving a discount to him
1.7 sounds high

For 7K by itself is high but if you would've sold it as a 60K package it would've fetched 1.7
