TACA booking
« on: July 09, 2012, 07:30:25 PM »
I am trying to book a TACA flight from the United website from EZE to LIM and it is showing availabilty, however when I try to book it is giving me an error message which reads as follows

" Due to rapidly changing partner availability the following flights are no longer available. Please choose another flight or modify your search criteria"

However whenever I go back and sign in it shows that it is still available. What can this mean? It has been like this for over a day now.

Flying "Take A Chance Airlines"...brave :)

Check on ANA or Aeroplan for better accuracy.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Never checked TACA but ANA def shows false negative on some airlines. Although this is probably United phantom/ghost avail. Life.

I am assuming in such a case there is no way to HUCA United to ticket it, especially as it is a partner correct?

Cuzco and Machu Picchu. I was going to enter from Bolivia but I think I may just do Peru instead.

See here for a bit more on Peru from a DDFer's perspective ;)

It's the Israeli "embassy" in Cuzco. The place where any Israeli backpacker can crash for help with lodging/food/touristic info/hang out with Israeli peers etc. They have those type of houses all over South America.
Kind of like a "hospitality home" or "welcome center" for Israelis.

Nice little report. I am dying to get to Cuzco but I am coming in from Buenos Aires and cannot find anything in to Peru. Only option is 20k BA miles in BIZ which is decent but there is nothing available from Lima to CUZ and cheapest flight is about 250.

Yea, let me know if it still exists.
Actually in Cuzco, unlike most other Israeli "havens" in South America they had two Israeli-style restaurants (not Kosher) and an Israeli owned travel agency besides for בית של פיסטוק.
There's a big Israeli presence there.
There's is also a Chabad house there, wasn't there back when I was there, and it looks like they have a restaurant as well.

And what, may I ask, are you going to do in Peru altogether if you're not visiting the Cuzco region?
You pretty much don't go to Peru if you don''t make that stop... I know I won't forgive you ;)

Oh do not worry that is the only reason I would go trust me! I am just working backwards now because I had this cool itinerary planned out, entering Bolivia from Buenos Aires and then spending time in Bolivia and overlanding into Peru, but when my wife saw the proposed trip she was not thrilled (understatement?). So instead I may fly to Lima direct from BA and then go to Rio.

Tell me if this is worth it. I have per person available 20k BA miles to Lima from BA in Biz, then I found on Peruvian airlines 241 USD for both of us to Cuz from Lima, and then 4.5k BA from CUZ to Lima. 20k United to RIO direct. So total cost for us 2 is 49k BA miles (biz) and 40k united plus 241 dollars. Is that insane or good value?

Generally speaking, you are taking advantage of the fact that there are no fuel surcharges in South America when using the BA miles, unlike many other destinations, so that is a very big plus for using your miles.

In past I had similar experience with Swiss, it was showing available on UA and when I try to buy, comes "rapidly changing message". I had called UA thru call back link. rep saw the same thing and she did book me manually the same flight. though it was not ticketed for few days, as it was all done manually, but eventually, it did show up and I got ticket as award ticket, in spite of it "really" not available and UA site showing it as error. Key is to ask agent "As it shows available and we both cannot book it, can you make a manual reservation and send reservation desk to manually issue the ticket as award ticket?" that worked for me. YMMV.
