Thanks Dan. FYI, the holy grail of RTW travel is Aeroplan Mini-RTW which prices at 140k in F. Only 3 stops allowed though

Also, if you are flying on One World (including EL AL) ex-TLV there are excellent student RTW fares in economy & business. I got TLV-BKK-HKG-PER-SYD-HNL-OGG-LAX-JFK-TLV in business for $3800+ in Business

I assume you mean booking a First class ticket to Australia on the Star Alliance and using the 2 free stopovers for 140K (or 100K for Europe/120K for Asia)?

I won't accumulate miles in Aeroplan because they scare me...too much risk that they will introduce fuel surcharges on Star Alliance tickets (after all they charge it on Air Canada redemptions) and crappy expiration policies.

Yes. No use holding any Aeroplan in your account. AMEX transfers instantly. They'll even let you do it while they wait on hold

But SPG does not.
Do they hold awards?

Well, spit it out!

I can use it myself max 1 time per month, so if I splash it here, it will stop functioning within 2 days, guaranteed.

I doubt it because you'd have to backtrack to Europe to continue

Frankly speaking, its a bigger headache then booking via DC. You know they would put on hold between 1-4 hours if you ask nicely

Aeroplan allows you cross both oceans on reward bookings.  You just may be able to pull something like TLV off on a Europe booking.
I have no firsthand experience though.

I don't know if that have round-the-world rates.
They do have extremely lenient routing rules that can let you build effectively build a RTW ticket.
You can make 2 stopovers, multiple under 24-hour connections, open-jaws, and you can cross both oceans.
And currently if you add multiple alliance carriers they drop their hefty fuel surcharge, but that can always change.
They also have a harsh expiration policy, so you may not want to transfer unless you're ready to book...

Is this what you're referring to?  Seems to allow 5 stopovers.  I assume that the mileage amount is going to Australia - 75K in coach?

Around the World Reward
A maximum of five stopovers and one open jaw are permitted per reward on allowable routings.
A maximum of one stopover is permitted in any one city.
Travel must commence from and return to the same county, and return cannot go beyond the point of origin.
Must include one transatiantic and one transpacific crossing.
