Continental 777 BusinessFirst Flat Bed Aircraft.
« on: February 24, 2010, 09:41:50 AM »
Continental is currently retrofitting their BusinessFirst class to lie-flat beds.

Want to know if your flight to Tel Aviv has the lie-flat beds?

You won't know until 2.5 days before the flight when you can check the ship# by checking "flight information and status" on pda.continental.com.
(On that site you can also check real-time upgrade status, standby status, if either cabin or the entire flight is booked full, seat maps, flight status, "where is my aircraft coming from," and much more)

Currently 777 ships 10, 13, 14, 15, and 18 are lie-flat.  There are 20 such aircraft, so you currently have a 25% chance of getting a lie-flat seat each way.  Ship 17 is slated to be the next to be converted.

They are converting aircraft to lie-flat at a rate of about 1 per month, plus they are receiving 2 new 777 aircraft between April-June which will presumably be delivered with the new configuration.

Effective 03/16:
Lie-flat 777 ships: 1, 10, 13, 14, 15, and 18.
Ship 17 should be converted by the end of this month.
Ships 21 and 22 should come from Boeing with lie-flats in Q2.

A friend recently got a lie-flat seat on EWR-TLV and was raving about it, of course then he got a regular seat on the way home and was none too pleased!

WOW!! those seats look incredible!
Are they the only airline that offers such nice biz class seats?
I especially love the power outlets. Those are so cool

It is very nice for a business class, however, any decent First looks like that.

But it's priced as Business, and it is definitely the nicest for a US carrier.

Actually, the new US Air 330-200 Envoy is as good if not better. They are featuring it on most of the PHL-TLV flights. Flew it last week and was blown away. Haagen Dazs and Starbucks Frappucino's were just an added touch to the most comfortable business bed I've ever had on a US based airline. See pics here: http://picasaweb.google.com/leigh112/A332#

Sure, but you have to fly US ;)
Anyway the US seat seems narrower, have you flown both?

Surprisingly enough, the service on US was fantastic and our luggage was already off the carousel by the time we got through customs.

You cannot blame them, it was a mistake...

But you are really brave to have booked with them though.

My wife has flown on the route a couple of times and has only good things to say. Flights landed early every time

2 days before your flight you can go to pda.continental.com and click on Flight information and status.

Flew it back and agree 100% with You, I even went to the back and found that US knocks the socks off of COs Y. Y seats were leather and very padded to boot. Envoy is 1-2-1 and Coach is 2-4-2 the aisles are a tight squeeze but, Id take US over CO any day of the week as long as its this model and not the ones with the older seats

Its only I like COs 84/85 timing better. US is akin to COs 90/91. Also US gets in @ 3:15pm while CO is 4:30pm so its possible with DST to fly out on a Thurs night flight (9:15pm from PHL) and get to your Hotel or wherever before Shabbos starts or for an Eve Yom Tov arrival. They leave within 10 mins of each out of TLV at night.

Looking to go over for Shavouth and trying to get the US flights but no luck yet, grabbed CO but as a Plat I can change away w/o any cost involved, so hoping US opens up

The only neg thing is that I saw the Exit Row seating in the rear cabin in Coach are set aside for Crew Rest, so that leaves 4 good seats, while Co has 6

I understand US has 3 planes configured with the new seats , just havent been able to confirm if they are used right now always on the TLV flights or as with CO they shift them around all over. CO has more of a need to move its planes and TLV isnt the longest of its 777s flights. While TLV is USs longest flight
