They can split reservations without a problem, they can even split it to book one way out of one account and another out of a different account (just give them a decent explanation why you are booking this way, so it shouldn't raise red flags).

1. You can benefit in a situation like yours when you're short of some miles, you can at least book one-way.

I'm holding a UA tik one way as a backup plan, but AA charges 30k in biz each way, and UA is 50k, so I'd prefer to not resort to them.

Also, I'm afraid they'll want to charge me Explorer pricing, since it uses 2 different One-World carriers in the round trip, but they didn't tell me this when I changed the initial hold. (Although I may be misunderstanding what Explorer is). Would booking 2 one ways solve the issue, since I'm flying Jordanian to BKK and then Cathay and El Al to return?

Here's the story.
They couldn't hold the reservation since its through partner airlines.
For the second tik, I used the second account. They requested the number, address, name, last activity details, and needed to use a cc in the account holders name.
Now I need to ask SPG to cancel the transfer.
