PRICING MISTAKE: 4 miles from Hong Kong

Guys. Lets stop talking about them not honoring it. Because when United Executives make their daily visit to DDF to see what people are saying about the deal, they will see us not expecting to get the mistake honored. And then they will cancel everyone!!!
Lets start saying how they better honor it, and if they don't we will be mad a pissed and we will put out another song on YouTube. In that spirit we will merit to keep our tickets.

I can tell you about everytime. But on 'standard award'  fare class has earned miles in the past. The one case i experienced is when i credited it to aegean airlines. I dont know if on its own united system will give you miles. But this would be an instant oppertunity to get agean gold. Its about 18-19k from nyc to honk kong and they earn 150%


Again theres no guarantee but it has worked to aegean for me!

It also says:If I recall correctly from my Business Law classes, when there is an error in a contract that is obvious to the buyer (such as this) that it's a mistake, it's a unilateral error and is voidable.
If I send you a contract for work that normally costs $5,000, and my secretary forgets some zero's and types $50 in the contract, I can void the contract because it was a mistake and the other party obviously knew that it was a mistake and would be taking advantage of me by requiring me to honor the contract. If however, my mistake was less outrageous and she wrote $4,500 due to a misunderstanding, the other party signed it in good faith expecting it to be valid and the contract would be upheld.

I believe therefore that it's obvious from a legal standpoint that they can cancel the tickets and aren't bound contractually to honor them. The only question is if they will make an internal decision to honor it to promote goodwill and show that they have good customer service (and avoid bad publicity).

You're conflating the issues.

One issue is contract law. Another is DOT regulations.

Scott the Author of that article just emailed me in reply to my question if he thinks United will honor my tickets.

I doubt it, but you might get some token compensation from United if they do cancel.
