Anyone have any updates on being charged the full miles? What did you do so far? What are your plans? I wasn't charged at all but a friend was charged on his 2nd ticket connecting to MEL...

I don't think it would be smart to buy a tickets for a few months from now just yet... Though people seemed to have made their flights it still seems pretty unlikely that UA will honor this deal...

If the DoT does fine UA, it's $10,000 per incident.

They completely blocked off HKG from the award booking system, which makes me wonder if things like SIN & SGN will still work...

The FT thread onyl had 140 posts when it was nixed. The whole thing was live for <5 hrs. I'm guessing less than 10,000 tickets.

It was live for a very long time for a glitch like this...

For what it's worth... UA corporate office is closed today so in my opinion the only people who won't be canceled are the ones that got out today and they will cancel everything else first thing Monday morning...

He didn't say United wasn't notified about it. Just that he thinks they'll start cancelling them tomorrow since their office is closed today.

So they are locked out and can't get in? Don't see the connection
If you think it will take them time to legally figure out what to do, then in hear. But it has nothing to do with corporate being closed

I'm sure they were alerted... But they won't end up dealing with it til tomorrow... All I'm saying is I assume thats why we haven't received cancellation emails yet.

I suppose one way for the airline to deal with this is to reticket him in a Y seat for the return, and maybe even limit his option to a middle seat near the lavatory unless he wishes to pay the difference to cover both directions in the premium cabin.
