but officially when the you went to the booking page all it said was 4 miles-
iow- if all i had in my account was 4 miles i could book the ticket- they end up deducting the whole thing which is why many people have a significant amount of ua miles debt

As you all know the "all new" United does not care about it's customers. As this is common knowledge, we feel that there is nothing to lose by cancelling your ticket to Hong Kong. If you really wish to see HKG you can fly there with AA on your newly matched AA status.

Nobody could have really expected united to allow this to go throught. +1 to the guys that flew and i feel bad for the others that started dreaming of their vacation and really thought they will go...

united has plenty of laywers working for them and if they cancel it, they have the legal backing...

If you file a complain with dot its stam "chaseirisch" in my opinion, as you will not gain from it, but just give them a headache they dont deserve

United can clearly claim, that by using a small account you knew it was a error, as no normal person would try to book a f ticket to hkg with a 2k account...

Thank united for letting you dream for 48 hours and move on

USA Department od transportation regulations explicitly require them to honor it even if I knew it was an error, so that argument is mute.

Their only possible way out is if award tickets are not included in the regulations, the real number stated above the 4 miles makes that the official price, flights not touching the USA, or they defy the DoT & attempt to have acourt strike down this DoT rule.

In this specific situation United has responded to the situation in a timely and professional manner.

Full disclosure: I did not get in on this "deal". I wish I had, and that I had left immediately like E. I WAS hoping that United would honor this deal for the benefit of those on DDF who were able to book themselves in for what would have been one of the greatest price mistake fares of all time.
