What do you folks think about trying to call up partner airlines that were ticketed, and trying to change dates with them so that they may escape scrutiny? For example, I was ticketed from TLV to HKG on an Austrian airline and another. Worth giving them a call?

Normally they'd tell you to back to the airline through which you made the booking.

my guess, if they offer you to cancel, you'll think they won't honor it and cancel voluntarily (esp. if you might lose the chance to get back the fees later on a ticket you don't plan on flying), regardless of what they ultimately settle with DoT. lowers the number of tickets they need to fight/honor/fine.

Just got a call from "Jeff" at United...

My mind was racing -- 1) He called me at work and I never gave UA my work number and 2) why would the CEO be calling me about stupid award glitch?

...and then he said "Yeah, I'm returning your call about trial next week."

Turns out it was a client (and no, not United Airlines

).
