Best way to print a picture as a painting on canvas?
« on: July 20, 2012, 04:37:34 AM »
Title says it all. Does anyone have any experience? I know a friend of mine getting married loves a certain picture of the Chabad rebbeim all walking together (not the one where the rebbe is a kid.) So I want to get him that picture as a present... Side note I haven't been able to even find the picture online... Any help with either of these two things would be great!

You mean this one?

May not be your cheapest option, but check out the Chassidic Art Institute (CHAI) on Kingston (Crown and Carroll, between Bargain Center and the cleaners). They have beautiful prints!

Groupon often has a store which does this, it's like $60, and supposedly they do a good job

No matter how good a job they can do, you need a high quality pic to begin with, no?

We had a large "painting like" canvas made for my fathers birthday.
We used All Art Direct in Boro park. Very happy with the results. He had a large selection of pictures in stock with the rights to them so it could be he already has a hi res picture that you can use.

This is the signature in the email correspondence I had with them;

Price?
I dont remember the exact price but we payed a bit high because they did a lot of editing as well. We also bought the frame through them. I think it was aprox in the $400 range and it was very large. I dont remember the exact dimensions but it was 20 something by 20 something inches.

Obviously you're not getting the same thing but I think the op would be better of with the groupon option, if you can still find it

Ya he's a really close friend but $400 is a bit steep. Although if they would enhance that picture for me maybe it's what I need.

I've tried a couple of places. My best experience by far was Canvas On Demand. They're constantly running Groupons - google 'national Groupon list' or something like that and you should find one pretty fast. Great customer service and they'll replace it if you don't like it (I've done that).

Try to set up a pro account (http://www.canvasondemand.com/professional/)- you'll get better prices (even while using a Groupon), and your first 16x20 is free (+$15 or so shipping). You must have some sort of photography website to qualify (PM me for a possible workaround).

I've used Adorama too and been very happy, but Canvas On Demand has a nicer final product for cheaper. And I've had bad experience with Artscow and Costco - lousy quality and colors, and it started to flake after a couple of months.

Also keep in mind that most places won't do it if they suspect copyright infringement and you can't provide proof of ownership, so that may be an issue with the picture at hand.

I used www.Pictureitoncanvas.com when they had a groupon deal for it. I ordered the 24x30 and it came out stunning and did not lose a bit of quality. I would really recommend it but the full price is quite expensive IMO.
