Car Rental Miles
« on: March 05, 2010, 12:49:06 PM »
I'd love to hear everything worthwhile about car rentals and which airlines FF programs (or point memberships, eg AMEX MR) with which car companies offer the best point schemes.

Everyone throw the best one out there that they know.

Example...
Continental has an extensive list of car rentals they issue points through.

My favorite with Continental...
Avis + Hertz:
Rent a Car for 1-4 days = 50 miles/day
More than 5 days = flat 500 miles
(Additionally, each offers a discount rate with Contintental Code (see above link))
( Anyone know if these codes are any good? -never tried them)

Any especially valuable relationships or other perks?
Other than Chabad @ enterprise any other kedai codes?

C'mon People.  Share the wealth.

problem is for the past few yrs the car rental companys pass along the Fed tx so as a clear shot you end up paying close to 3 cents per mile. Not worth it in my opinion. Unless theres some good promo on going since there is acap of the max they can charge $wise. So unless I can avg say 1 cent per mile I NEVER earn Miles from my Car Rentals.

The main exception is if I dont fly a Carrier any longer and I need some transaction in order not to lose the miles in my acct, then its worth the couple of bucks to keep my Miles acct active and in good standing

Not talking about the miles you put on the car, if you pay for the mileage a person puts on the car

But for Miles earned for renting the car that you get on an Airlines program

You're doing it backwards, you don't need to pay the tax on miles when you rent, just leave your number blank when you rent.....
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

well Thrifty & Hertz has their own program where you get free days, which is great for those times I need a car for 1 day during the week and dont want to pay $100

Ive done the leaving it off thing and they ask 'sir we will charge the CC you used for the tax', I said go ahead and at times they actually did go and charge it, and it became a hassle having to jump thru their hoops and having to deal with their reps. So to get 200 miles (4 days) meant spending over 1/2 hr on the phone, not worth it, hey for 2000 but not 200

At least with Avis it can be done online after the rental.

I just know with Avis I look for the best mileage offer.
Last year it was 5,000 Delta miles, now there's 3,000 US miles, etc.

Costco has 2 corp. codes for Avis and they are usually quite good...won't waive underage fees though but it's a 100% legit corp.

OK, so am Arriving at PHL on May 4 at 5:30 am on US Air from TLV, and going to Brooklyn, NY looking for a cheap 1 way car rental, or some other idea

well Avis seems to be the only 1 that has a Brooklyn lot to drop off at , 211 Atlantic Ave the others are either in the City or NJ $170 for a full size $167 for a mid size $168 economy , thats before any code to reduce it. Then youd need to find someone to go with you to the Avis lot and bring you back. Could be some others walso have drop off places but they were listed youd probably have to go to each rental site and play around with them for thier drop-off spots

Id try googling PHL Shuttles and see what you come up with

depending on the # of bags your flying with and size will come into play if its worth taking the SEPTA train from PHL to Trenton and NJT from there to say NYC. Or say a shuttle van to JFK and have someone pick you up at JFK Id imagine that would be less then the car and no problems with having to return it.

heres a link for a shuttle service to EWR,JFK,LGA maybe they will get off the Belt and drop you and someone can meet you at that exit? http://supertranspa.com/jfkandnewarkairport.aspx

heres some ideas offa board its from '08 so they probably have changed somewhat; http://www.city-data.com/forum/philadelphia/249743-need-help-shuttle-bus-phily-jfk.html

I hope they help you out and I hope for my sake it doesnt infringe on DDs T&Cs if it does it was nice helping you guys out the past few days
