Posted here as not specifically looking for a deal. For a guy that has an SLR already, what's the best option for a portable camera?

If its really much nicer I can spend $500 as well.

Smallest and lightest with best pictures for a photographic n00b.

or you can get the newer model of this one but the older one is said to be better.

I'd go with that last one especially if you already have an SLR.

The S95 does look good. So I guess it's between that in this cybershot. Anybody?

The specs seem to specify better stabilization on the cybershot, and It has wifi. The canon looks better and is smaller.

If you really want it. I wouldn't use it anyways too much and IMHO it just ruins battery life. Though obviously specific models are better than others.

What are you taking pictures of mostly?

IME Canons menu is way easier than Sony.

The s100 def has its upgrades on the s95 but I think as a whole people are happier with the s95. Less complaints in general.
I think the S100 is said to have softer images especially at higher ISOs.
The S100 has a wider angle lens.
Honestly most people would be happy with either one.
But if I were buying one at the moment I'd go with the s95.

My problem is I don't even know what that stuff means.
I guess that means I should stick with my Elph 100? Or is there any advantage of the S95 even for a novice like myself?

Well actually it would probably be a great camera to start to play around with and learn with. But honestly if you're going to buy a second camera and you have kids I'd pick the cheapest SLR you can find and use that because it will make a world of difference. You'll be able to catch shots you otherwise couldn't.
Kids move fast!

You can pick up a $300+ refurbishsed SLR from Canon if you send in an old broken one.

Dan +1 on everything u said. I don't have an SLR but planing on buying a higher end Canon soon.

I am a complete n00b, I'm not really looking to learn, just want something that takes nice pics with auto settings.

I agree wifi is not needed. But the GPS sounds very helpful.

Pictures are mostly of scenery etc, NOT kids.

Also, is it true that the cannon cannot recharge from a USB port, but the cybershot can?

How much of a difference can the menu make?

Bad.
Between the s95/s100 they each have their advantages.
If you prefer the GPS go for the s100.

i have a rebel t3 and i hate it; i want to sell it on ebay; it was originally 900+printer+300 rebate=600 sold printer for 350 on ebay so camera was 250 so if sell it even for 300 its ok so what should i get? upto 600 or so? or keep this one and get a new lens?
