Topic Wiki

Ok so my rule of determining the level of difficulty in data recovery is really 2 questions.
#1 -  is it making any noise
#2 -  is it detected in the bios if you connect it directly to the mobo

If the answer to #1 is yes - then if you want any hopes of recovering the data do not attempt to continue powering it on. It can be making noise because the heads are broken or bent and if that's the case you will scrape the platters and kill the drive beyond any hope of recovery. (data recovery isn't like the way they show it in the movies you cannot actually remove a platter and recover any data off it) And please do not attempt the Freezer Trick - it doesn't work on current drives anymore and actually introduces condensation in the drive that can kill the platters.
If its detected in the bios we can try a couple of things - and i can usually recover the data for about $250 - $799 - over 50% of the time its about $300.

possible your hard drive was failing, try using runtime getdataback to recover the data. You should need the NTFS version

I installed it, if it's just simple steps would you mind telling me what I need to do?

Then you're not using the right one, the latest one can do a quickscan which takes minutes

Even for a 500GB drive?
And if so, may I stop the scan that is running now or it can harm the drive?

The newer versions parse the MFT so they can give you the list of files in minutes, however you can try with the one you have.
Stopping a scan doesn't damage the drive

Any suggestions on getting pictures off a SanDisk Micro SD card that seems to have died.

My Computer, Cell Phone & Printer USB port don't even acknowledge that's it even been plugged in.

Thanks

Guess you meant "hate doing that"

The main thing that I need urgent from the drive is my Quickbooks data, I haven't did a backup for quite a long time,
So I would do anything to get that,

Is it possible to retrieve that data if it wasn't saved as a backup, just in the program?

Yea sure. You can try buying the software, not that expensive - or we can run a chkdsk that should give you access.

Nope, all you're doing is deleting the shortcut to the program.

Sorry if its the wrong thread but no reason to start another one, anyway, I have a 21/2 yr old MacBook, currently not working to well, brought it to apple they told me it need a new part where you put the plug in, since it wasn't powering up from a plug, it needs a need plastic housing since its all cracked, I saw when they did a diagnostic test on the battery it said it was "good" the "genius" told me that it's dead and won't hold a charge, however I don't think that it's true, I just think its a battery after two and half years so it isn't   Working as brand new, all repairs total about $200 without the battery which is 130, my question is do you think it's worth fixing it since it really is a great laptop, if I have to buy another one I'm only going to be spending up to 450, so I'm not going to get as good of a laptop. Thanx

Needs physical recovery. If its not detected with the right size and capacity, most software recovery tools can't do anything
