Topic Wiki

Ok so my rule of determining the level of difficulty in data recovery is really 2 questions.
#1 -  is it making any noise
#2 -  is it detected in the bios if you connect it directly to the mobo

If the answer to #1 is yes - then if you want any hopes of recovering the data do not attempt to continue powering it on. It can be making noise because the heads are broken or bent and if that's the case you will scrape the platters and kill the drive beyond any hope of recovery. (data recovery isn't like the way they show it in the movies you cannot actually remove a platter and recover any data off it) And please do not attempt the Freezer Trick - it doesn't work on current drives anymore and actually introduces condensation in the drive that can kill the platters.
If its detected in the bios we can try a couple of things - and i can usually recover the data for about $250 - $799 - over 50% of the time its about $300.

Correct the only reason why it works wirelessly is because the router it's plugged into can be connected to wirelessly but the printer itself has no wireless connection as opposed to other printers that can connect to a network over WiFi
that's usually referred to as a network printer not a Wi-Fi printer

My hard drive suddenly stopped working, I sent it in to a company for a free diagnostics and I was told that I have a "mechanical failure caused by a head crash" and quoted $900 for the recovery.

Do I have any other options? Is that really the cost?

He did a great job on my hard drive last year, and it cost about a third of what some other company quoted me.
A pleasure to deal with.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

I started noticing that I'm unable to submit certain forms through Chrome. The 2 examples that came up where the Target Prepaid Redcard site where I wasn't able to enter the security question answer, and logging into my Aeroplan account. Both these times it worked in Firefox. Any clue what the issue is? To be clear; I'm able to enter the data, but unable to actually submit it.
Probably pertinent to mentionI recently installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus, smartmenu8, as well as Kasperskys Chrome extensions and Ublock Chrome extension.
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Just tried disabling Ublock, and it now works. To confirm I enabled it again, and it doesn't work. Any clue why that is? Any solution?

I have a iPad that the screen broke a few times already, this time that it broke they said that the digitizer is also broken and wanted $175 to fix it. I bought a new ipad instead, and I wasn't to transfer the data to the new ipad. The issue is that there is a password on the broken iPad that doesn't let me back it up to iTunes till I enter the password which I can't do because of the broken screen.
Is there any way to transfer the data to the new ipad without entering the password? Or do I have to fix the old ipad?
Thanks

Try to use ifunbox (http://www.i-funbox.com/) there are step by steps of how to get rid of the password, and backup all the data/put it on a new device

Click on the Ublock button and there will be a large blue power logo to turn off blocking for that site.
This worked before I saw your post. Purged cache and updated filters anyways.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 i5547-7450sLV Signature Edition Laptop which I got from this DDMS deal. How do I know if I can expand the RAM? Do I need to know any other specification besides DDR3L? Should I be able to install by myself? any recommendations in terms of brand?

yes you can expand it up to 16gb it's very simple to install you open the back and snap it in

OK. So do I need to know any specification beyond DDR3(L) memory? Do I need to see the 'L' on RAM I'm buying?

usually all you need is DDR3 however it is still possible that it won't be compatible your best bet is using crucial.com scanner and buying from them, when i upgraded my laptop from 4GB to 8GB i only saved about $2 by buying on amazon

Don't see it on BestBuy. Certainly there are other good Brands. No?
