Topic Wiki

Ok so my rule of determining the level of difficulty in data recovery is really 2 questions.
#1 -  is it making any noise
#2 -  is it detected in the bios if you connect it directly to the mobo

If the answer to #1 is yes - then if you want any hopes of recovering the data do not attempt to continue powering it on. It can be making noise because the heads are broken or bent and if that's the case you will scrape the platters and kill the drive beyond any hope of recovery. (data recovery isn't like the way they show it in the movies you cannot actually remove a platter and recover any data off it) And please do not attempt the Freezer Trick - it doesn't work on current drives anymore and actually introduces condensation in the drive that can kill the platters.
If its detected in the bios we can try a couple of things - and i can usually recover the data for about $250 - $799 - over 50% of the time its about $300.

some repair shops have an external screen they can plug in to make selectins on the phone. Otherwise you may need a new screen....

An entire folder on a network drive disappeared and none of my backups or the Windows restore previous versions are working for it either. My guess is that it got deleted from a network computer which doesn't go to the recycle bin. I know it was used within the last month. Any good recovery programs to try as a first step?

I have an iPhone that got water damaged and won't turn on. Lots of pictures on there that I'd like to recover if possible (not backed up).

Any experts here deal with that kind of thing?

Not to iCloud, not to computer. For 6+ months before the incident.

If the screen won't turn on, its pretty much a lost cause. Even bringing it to apple won't help, because the phone locks. That was my experience lately.

After going through a list of 100,000 deleted files and finding NOTHING of what i was looking for I BH was able to find the folder moved into a different one on that drive. Now I need to figure out why the backup didn't work.

Just curious if you searched for it before combing through hundreds of thousands of deleted files?

Yes I searched for some names I knew were in that folder. I found it by searching for all excel files and then found one from that folder. That also meant going through many results. The deleted ones were easier in a way since most were gibberish

So, making a long story short my S8 Plus dropped dead taking with it all my texts and a lot of contacts.

The full story is here.

Short Summary - Samsung fixed the phone, but had to put in a new motherboard so there went everything.

So, i would like to see if my data and contact omehow, somewhere are backed up by somebody.

My contact I have now entrusted to google. I had thought that verizon was backing them up, but apperently due to an issue with my account they haven't in over a year.

My texts I thought google backs up - looking online I'm not completely crazy - they do, but only for nexus & pixel device holders :'(

Is there anything I am missing? (aside from my data lol) Meaning some other provider or maybe samsung? That backs some of this up...

I have never heard of it, assuming I never set it up I assume it would not do me much good, no?

A quick google search tells me its good for pics and videos... which is not what I am missing.
