Topic Wiki

Ok so my rule of determining the level of difficulty in data recovery is really 2 questions.
#1 -  is it making any noise
#2 -  is it detected in the bios if you connect it directly to the mobo

If the answer to #1 is yes - then if you want any hopes of recovering the data do not attempt to continue powering it on. It can be making noise because the heads are broken or bent and if that's the case you will scrape the platters and kill the drive beyond any hope of recovery. (data recovery isn't like the way they show it in the movies you cannot actually remove a platter and recover any data off it) And please do not attempt the Freezer Trick - it doesn't work on current drives anymore and actually introduces condensation in the drive that can kill the platters.
If its detected in the bios we can try a couple of things - and i can usually recover the data for about $250 - $799 - over 50% of the time its about $300.

I have never heard of it, assuming I never set it up I assume it would not do me much good, no?

A quick google search tells me its good for pics and videos... which is not what I am missing.

Which phone? Not available online. Only on certain (newer) Samsung device's.

ETA: I believe it was rolled out with the note 7.

Search in setting

Well, here is our answer...

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00077699/

• The available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider and software version.
• Samsung Cloud is not available for Verizon Galaxy Note8.

I was beginning to think I lost it lol

So, making a long story short my S8 Plus dropped dead taking with it all my texts and a lot of contacts.

The full story is here.

Short Summary - Samsung fixed the phone, but had to put in a new motherboard so there went everything.

So, i would like to see if my data and contact omehow, somewhere are backed up by somebody.

My contact I have now entrusted to google. I had thought that verizon was backing them up, but apperently due to an issue with my account they haven't in over a year.

My texts I thought google backs up - looking online I'm not completely crazy - they do, but only for nexus & pixel device holders :'(

Is there anything I am missing? (aside from my data lol) Meaning some other provider or maybe samsung? That backs some of this up...
I use
Google photos- for pics

Verizon cloud- for documents, contacts, text messages (Google for my contacts as well

Google-Apps backup

Google drive - WhatsApp

Nothing-Telegram #Telegramisthebest

By doing that I basically got everything back. Except a few hours of WhatsApp

now on vocation not in the country in Israel.
Any chance the command prompt would work from a computer ?
All what happened was it was in the middle of transferring items(photos/ videos from one folder to another on the sd card on the phone,
the phone was taking to long so cancel I clicked and then the phone froze so I restarted the phone and to see all the media on the sd is corrupted after the restart i saw all the pics and all on the sd card wouldn't show on the phones, except for the words corrupted as card.

It is a normal recovery job. You can try software like PhotoRec (TestDisk) or Recuva (easy to use but less powerful.)

And if one doesn't work, try the other. I've had situations each way where one didn't work and then the other one did.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Since here it is a corrupted file system I doubt Recuva will even know how to eat it...

I'd assume testdisk can fix the issue, but you'll probably need guidance.

Depends in your level of knowledge in partitions and file systems, but yes.

Oh my! My GoPro Quik app (desktop) automatically imports all new files, and gives an option afterward to clear the SD card. I naturally wiped the card thinking that it had imported everything, only to realize moments later that a trove of media wasn't even imported. So many important pics and vids are now gone.  :'(

Anything I can do?
