Topic Wiki

Ok so my rule of determining the level of difficulty in data recovery is really 2 questions.
#1 -  is it making any noise
#2 -  is it detected in the bios if you connect it directly to the mobo

If the answer to #1 is yes - then if you want any hopes of recovering the data do not attempt to continue powering it on. It can be making noise because the heads are broken or bent and if that's the case you will scrape the platters and kill the drive beyond any hope of recovery. (data recovery isn't like the way they show it in the movies you cannot actually remove a platter and recover any data off it) And please do not attempt the Freezer Trick - it doesn't work on current drives anymore and actually introduces condensation in the drive that can kill the platters.
If its detected in the bios we can try a couple of things - and i can usually recover the data for about $250 - $799 - over 50% of the time its about $300.

SD card was accidentally formatted.
Recuva found the images but not the videos.
Any ideas for how to get the videos back or its unlikely to recover them?
If the SD card wasn't used after formatting, it should be recoverable.

If the data is worth for you, try r-studio or someone who is doing it professionally.

If you don't know anyone you can PM me.

you can try testdisk / photorec - I've had experiences where they found things that Recuva did not

Must likely not, but it's impossible for anyone to say without checking out. So, as said, try PhotoRec and if it doesn't do it you can try contacting a professional.

"Broken" is very vague. What is broken? But probably it is not very easy.

Someone sent me a pm with a link to R-STUDIO reactivated,
Is there any way to check if it is safe or a virus?
(truth is I already used it, i was in a rush, anything to worry?)

Just asking... You needed R-STUDIO specifically, have you tried the free ones (Recuva, TestDisk, etc.) and they didn't work?

I tried recuva, and he found tens of GB, and most files I couldn't open,
I did it with R-STUDIO and found much more

To all who ask me where I got this R-STUDIO, (received 4 PM so far ;D)
Here is the link: https://shutfim.com/topic/40/data-recovery
Proceed at your own risk, if someone can manage to figure out if it safe I would be very grateful.

Not sure, if you want to open it up you may be able to put it into a hard drive enclosure that connects to the computer via USB. (They come in 2 sizes 2.5 and 3.5.) I don't know how risky that is though.

Most folders and files were accidentally erased off the desktop.
Many of the folders were very large as they contained years of family pictures and videos.
None of it went to the recycling bin.
We tried Recuva but it doesn't seem to be retrieving the pictures and videos. It's also retrieving files that we can't open.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry for the late response, but find another device and swap the motherboards. Or if the USB debugging was enabled then a computer should work.
Or Verizon cloud.. many options at first glance.
