Data Recovery - Any Questions?

Most folders and files were accidentally erased off the desktop.
Many of the folders were very large as they contained years of family pictures and videos.
None of it went to the recycling bin.
We tried Recuva but it doesn't seem to be retrieving the pictures and videos. It's also retrieving files that we can't open.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Installed both but can't figure out how to run them.
They seem like the old DOS programs.

For some reason I get the feeling that if free software like Recuva and others are not recovering much than the paid programs won't either.
Am I wrong?
If I am wrong, which paid program would you recommend?
How much would a professional charge to do it?

Why take that risk?
It's also possible that it tries to fill up the drive in the most efficient manner possible, which may be through rewriting the old data, or it could even be better for drive longativity.
Regardless, in my personal experience I've had lots of times when a file got deleted and even without doing much perhaps creating a document or two, the previous files weren't fully recoverable.

I believe he doesn't charge as he he doesn't do data recovery anymore no service =no fee, I used him in the past and he was great
if it's not so important for you then go ahead and play and whatever happens happens, if it is don't do anything and give it over to a professional, the more you play with it the less of a chance of recovery you'll have.

how does Recuva work?
a hard drive has memory slots and indexes what slots are already used and what slots are still available, when you delete a file (soft delete without overwriting) all it does it removes the flag that its used, it doesn't actually delete them, when you save the next file or anything else it looks for a free slot and might overwrite the one you flagged as availible and thats when you lose it.

I have no idea why, but most free software do more harm than good.

r-studio is the only professional program that I know which is also user friendly.

If you want to try to do it yourself install r-studio on a different pc, and plug in the hard, r-studio may detect the all the deleted files, if not do a scan on the drive.

Make absolutely sure to copy the recovered from to a different drive.

Even writing a few files, can be the difference between a full recovery with the complete folder structure, and a raw recovery, which is all files recovered by types without the original name and folder.

The file table is stored in one area of the hard drive, and if the entry is marked as deleted it could be overwritten with very little data.

I guess the NTFS version.

I think you can do a scan before purchasing, and will tell you what version you need.
