I believe he doesn't charge as he he doesn't do data recovery anymore no service =no fee, I used him in the past and he was great
if it's not so important for you then go ahead and play and whatever happens happens, if it is don't do anything and give it over to a professional, the more you play with it the less of a chance of recovery you'll have.
how does Recuva work?
a hard drive has memory slots and indexes what slots are already used and what slots are still available, when you delete a file (soft delete without overwriting) all it does it removes the flag that its used, it doesn't actually delete them, when you save the next file or anything else it looks for a free slot and might overwrite the one you flagged as availible and thats when you lose it.
a file can be stored on a couple of memory blocks
