Scam or legit offer?
« on: July 26, 2012, 09:44:08 AM »
My wife & I went to six flags last month and filled out one of these forms at the entrance that they were handing out to win a camaro or $50k.
This morning, a lady called my wife telling her that thanks to this form she won a 4 days/3 nights bahamas cruise with Royal Caribbean and RT airfare from NY to MIA or FLL for 2 people valid for a year. Now I am usually very suspicious with those agencies calling u but this time i feel like it might be legit... First of all she had all of the details, including where she received our contact info and our names/address/etc. She even told me who won the $50k. the only thing we need to do (isn't there is always? ;) is to attend a 1 hr introduction at their offices in Rockaway NJ and whenever i ll book the cruise, i'll have to pay the port fees of $189 to $225 per person. Those appear - based on her - on every cruises u book (i did 2 myself but just cant remember).

Sounds like the  typical time share scam. First they make you feel very guilty for not buying in and then they do give you a voucher for something but usually it has so many restrictions that its never worth it

Google the name of the company  scammer offering the trip.  More often than not, you'll find mainy complaints about what they're offering.  You'll also probably find a handful of people that were satisfied with the service with the caveat of heavy restrictions such as blackout dates, needing to book for off-season only, high-pressure sales tactics, etc.

Ha! That 1 hour quickly turns in to 5. However,

Legit or Scam?
That doesn't make it a scam. Annoying and hard to redeem? Yes. But not a scam.

There have been groupons for cruises for less than that, inclusive of taxes and fees.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

i was making a point that it's not only paying for a cruise but also for airfare so u get a little more than a groupon deal...

Just found out the name of the company is rockaway sundance vacation. Indeed there are lots of reports of scams but due to ppl who actually purchased the timeshare at the end of the presentation and then got increasing monthly charges for an "indefinite" amount of time. But apparently u can just say no (as difficult as that can be) and grab those cruise vouchers and leave... but also apparently those vouchers are hard to book due to blackout dates, peak season, etc...

I know airfare is included.
My point is they are already lying to you by saying that you will be paying $450 for "port fees" for 2 people when there have been groupons for cruises for $200 less than that with port fees.

And that probably won't be their only lie.

Actually u dont even have to go to groupon for such deals... Expedia has them

then bottom line of the deal (if that's the only fees of course), I get 2 free RT tickets to MIA

be careful.. first of all...they will not give vouchers for anything as they will tell u they need a credit card on file to pay for taxes or a "refundible" deposit.

second, there is also a chance that they will make u "check in" at a location in Miami and if you don't they will charge u an arm and a leg for the flight tickets. If you jump through all their hoops you will probably get the flight but keep in mind that it will be difficult.

i once got a cruise to the bahamas, plus airfare, hotel..... For just $150 in "taxes" as i hemmed and hawwed, they added in free rental car and show tickets and other things. They were dying for me to sign. When i told them i'll think it over and call back, they said no... U need to decide now. I never ended up doing it, something didnt seem right.

i dont think its a scam but they make it very hard for you. i once 'fell' for one of these time share invites, when i got there they looked at me and figured i was there for the free stuff with no plans on buying anything, so they told me that they googled my name and that i am married and i would need to make a decision that day with my spouse, so i wont be able to do the tour and no vouchers
