that works only for regular phone... or up until iPhone 4 usually...

that's why i asked originally to @sawlw when he said he did it on a 4S. They usually unlock iphones that are out of contract or very close of being out of contract (~2 yrs). Since iPhone 4S are only 8 months old, u usually cant unlock them through the carrier. U usually need to use sim adaptor like the one u mentioned in the OP or u can jailbreak and use SAM but this option is now dead. I personally was able to unlock my 4S due to the fact that my company has an agreement with the carrier not to keep its employees under contract.

That's good to hear that the unlocked ur prepaid phone without an account by them, may I know which phone and which number did u call them? Just customer service or something else?

Well of course. But paying ETF of $375 would be like paying a factory unlocked iphone at the apple store...

Not really. Factory Unlocked is $650

A phone upgrade is $199 + $375 is cheaper

Not really because u need to pay for at least one month plan and activation fees

That's if you don't have one.

But if you previously had one than these fees are anyways for your service...

Did it once with a cheap Nokia flip phone, and once with a Samsung flip. Not sure of exact models, but can find out. Just called on the regular number.

I borrowed a att locked 3gs, is there any way to unlock it? I looked at some of sites and they say i need an app to unlock, which i cant get since i dont have service with them.

i do have tmobile, would they be able to unlock?

A jailbreak should do it.

I am not sure with the iPhone 3gs, But I would guess the untethered jailbreak is avail - so you could always restore it and remove the Jailbreak

just called them and said that they cant unlock this particular phone

what a shame! is it true ir she just didnt want to unlock it, what im asking is if its worth calling again

She probably wasn't lying. Is it a new phone? It could be they only get the unlocking codes released after a certain amount of time. Or for certain phones they just may not have the unlocking code at all.
Note: The codes come from the maker of the phone, not the service provider.

I bought an unlock from ebay for $30. This was then unlocked through apple. This way you can do normal updates without worrying about bricking your device.
