Car Insurance Coverage in Mexico
« on: July 26, 2012, 04:23:38 PM »
Hi all, does any credit cards give car insurance coverage in Mexico... also does the insurance cover theft as I am terrified about that (as well as the planting of drugs in my car but I assume there is no insurance for that)?

Hi, I have just booked Hertz for a week in Cancun.
Dan said he added the liability insurance to his Alamo rental last year. (http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/61187#more-61187).  I'm using CSP, so that should cover CDW (CMIIW). Looks like I'll have the following insurance options to add at the counter (they were not available online):

Available Optional Items at the Counter:
Liability Insurance Supplement--weekly   91.00   USD
Collision damage waiver--weekly   210.00   USD
PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE--weekly   28.00   USD
Theft protection--weekly   91.00   USD

I presume the one I want to add, if at all, is the Liability Insurance Supplement. Correct?

THe liability is not optional. THey will add it on to your rental. Just be aware that the price quoted is not the price you will get. Its standard for them to add on the higher liability.

From what I understand u have to buy third party liability insurance thru the rental company, no way around it and no credit card will cover it. All of the really cheap price quotes don't include this and will charge u for it at check out.

I have a rental for next month through america car rental. It includes all add on insurance (collision, theft, medical) and total for economy car is $40/day which isn't much more than competitors with less coverage. Basically buying peace of mind I won't have to worry about being held in a Mexican prison if there's an accident.

Booking now for a few weeks in the summer... National is offering to add $15 Third Party Liability...
Would that be all I get charged... I keep hearing of people having to pay more at the counter
