canon powershot cameras
« on: July 30, 2012, 07:40:44 AM »
Hi guys, I just wanted to hear from others. I have had a few canon cameras in the past, and would never buy another brand, big fan. However, the latest one I have is the 1400 IS which I find sometimes comes out blurry pics. Does anyone else find that with this specific model, or all newer ones in general, as they get fancier? If its time to get a new one, does anyone have a suggestion which is the best model right now out there? I don't care for fancy touch screen, and all I think that matters most is SMALL, CRISP pics, and good optical zoom. Thanks!

i love my hs300 but i gotta say, i always feel that my pictures could be a little crisper if i knew how to manually change the settings... also the shutter lag can be infuriating!

One thing I tell everyone to do on the Canons is never use Auto- Use the Program mode and have it set to standard..but have it set to Vivid Color.
Makes all the shots pop a bit. I leave my point and shoot like this 24/7

It's a great device. I'd probably still opt for the S95 or an SLR but the G12 takes some really nice shots.

Why do you prefer the other 2?

With the S95 I like the fact that's it more compact with a bigger screen and you should get basically just as nice shots.
With the SLR the number one reason is FAST shutter speed to catch all those great shots of your kids and just nicer looking shots in general.
If I was already getting a camera the size of the G12 I'd get an SLR.

+1 the g series is just great
although it wouldn't perform as fast nor would it be so sharp [smaller lens] as an SLR
S95 IMHO not as good [the lens is smaller IIRC]
but an SLR is an SLR

If its between the S95 versus the G12 it's more about preference.  The G12 does have better battery life and a really nice easy to use dial/control system.
But the S95 is pretty good too.

But if it's between an SLR and a G12 you are going to see better shots on the SLR no question.

correct.
another point to consider, G12 looks like a heavier/sturdier body then the s95. [thinking about falls/drops]
also the S95 has no viewfinder

So seems like the SLR is the top in the field.

@meshug. or whoever considering buying a canon: you might wanna consider calling up canon's loyalty program, before buying

+2
I got one of my SLRs from them. The entry level Canon from the loyalty program for about $320. With lens.
