From what I understand I get that from the hp website so I'm assuming it will have Internet explorer and a couple other basic programs but what about Microsoft word that came with it will that also get reinstalled or so I have to do it with a Microsoft word program disc

I just uninstalled windows and re-installed a fresh copy from the disk that came with my commuter. I lost everything that came pre-installed (including word, excel, ppt etc.)

So how would you get it back and is there anything I can do before I wipe it to help me like get a product key etc.

Windows installation includes only windows itself - internet explorer is part of windows installation. for the rest of the utilities you need I would recommend going to www.ninte.com and select and install as needed.
MS Office suite doesn't come with windows, if you had it before you can reinstall - otherwise you have to get it

I ended up using the download and key from cheapgk (or whatever theyre called) which I purchased for my work macheine. It worked a second time and I got Outlook which I was missing...

Yup that will work. If you have a version currently installed using pull up the existing key and reuse it using one of the many keyfinders

Is upgrading from XP to to 7 or 7 to 8 the same as wiping the drive and starting clean?

In my previous post I asked if its ok to install a dell setup disc onto an hp computer you said it shouldn't be a problem and it wasn't it worked at perfectly except I couldn't connect to the Internet hardwired or wirelessly so at the end what I did was I went to hp.com on my reg computer downloaded the drivers in a flash drive and installed it on my computer and tads it worked so prob solved

Obviously you have to reinstall the drivers. Even if you use a Dell cd to install Windows you would still require the system drivers.

Sorry, I thought your question was if Windows will install using a Dell CD, didn't think you were referring to drivers..

Have a HP laptop which I upgraded to Windows 8 (why? don't ask), and would like to downgrade back to 7.

How is it done? is there still a copy of Win 7 on my PC?

Go to system restore and find the restore point of when you upgraded - you should be fine

dont see a restore point, only comes up "create a restore point"

Which model of HP do you have?
You can probably restore your laptop to the way you got it - usually some key combination when starting the computer.
