my passport expires in a month. i am not planning on going anywhere but i would like to get it renewed. what is the best way right now? i don't like being without a passport for too long.
If you have no travel plans, I don’t see why you shouldn’t just renew by mail now.

Question is if he prefers not having it now for a few months with no travel plans and it expires in a month anyway or having to wait a few weeks when he may have travel plans.

I believe you can just apply for a new passport which costs $35 more than a renewal & avoid sending your passport in

Does anyone have anything new to report, re applying/renewing?  I spoke to them about two weeks ago and was told to wait.  That said, most of their offices are open (not to the public) and their backlog is not much above normal.
