Need a U.S. Passport Immediately?

You should make an appointment to be seen at a Regional Passport Agency only if:

The U.S. passport is needed in less than 2 weeks for international travel
The U.S. passport is needed within 4 weeks to obtain a foreign visa
Contact the National Passport Information Center to make an appointment or locate a Passport Agency.

go to :

http://travel.state.gov/passport/npic/npic_898.html

https://passportappointment.travel.state.gov/

I also made an appointment online. It's a long overdue option. I discovered that new appointments post at midnight, for the newly added day. I waited until midnight, and was able to pick any time I wanted in NY. Game changer.

and make a appointment you will get it the same day or the next day , (depends when you are flying) .

If you need an expedited appointment call l 1-877-487-2778 at 8 AM SHARP EST. Press 1 1 2 2 to speak to a live rep to schedule you an expedited appointment.
Trick is to press the last 2 at 8AM, rather than starting the call at 8AM. I had 2 people try it this morning- one pressed "2" at 8AM and had no hold times and got an appointment for today. The second called at 8AM, had a 30 min wait, and was told that the closest they have available is in VT.

When it comes to (random?) ID checks, I'm a total libertarian.

Why not just simply refuse ID?

Why not just simply refuse ID?

In some cases I can't, like when I expect I'll get carded (e.g. to verify age), or when I need state ID (e.g. for returns in some stores).

I assumed you were talking about law enforcement encounters.

I'm not getting the principle, then, if you're simply talking about not liking to show ID to verify age...

I don't like the idea that they think they can stop and ask, in many cases refusing will turn into a power struggle between me and the officer. I prefer to just say I don't have any ID on me, and they can't do anything to me because there's no law requiring me to carry ID (AFAIK).

So now you are talking about law enforcement?  ???

I'll start from the beginning:

I don't believe I should have to carry ID with me, so I don't (on principle) unless I have to.

The רישא is about law enforcement, the סיפא about needing to show ID in non-LE situations.

Nice, I sent mine in late last week, let's see when it gets back here...

P.s. surprisingly USPS tracking is pretty current, and is showing me the envelope is already in Philly, so they should have it by tomorrow. I'm in no rush, and it cost me enough already, so I didn't bother paying the $12.72 to get the return expedited. I did say I was anticipating a trip to LHR early September, so maybe that'll cause mine to process quicker...

Update: I wrote I had travel plan 9/4, passport came today via priority mail. I didn't pay the expedite fee or the $12.72 express mail charge. The card also came today, via first class mail.

so heres an update. i had a boy 2 weeks ago and bh the hospital let me have 10 days from birth to fill in my sons name. which i did on day 9 and the next day had his birth certificate done.

then i called ez passport and they scheduled me for an app at the post office and that cost me 140 + 25 (postal fee) and of course i forgot pictures so +15 (for 2 pictures)  and then i had to take the sealed envelope to somestore in monsey and give them a 100$ check, and the passport will be done in 4 days!

so total was

If I get an appointment and go down to a regional passport center in Philadelphia, will I get my passport that same day?

One of the expedited passport companies says I won't, yet my local passport office says I will???

Thanks. I'll bring the kitchen sink.

Any clue how long it takes? I only have around two hours.

Just to make sure I have this straight, you mailed the form on the 8/20 and got it back on 9/10 and you didn't pay for expedited service, correct?

Yes. I was there (in Philly) for a total of one hour.

They said the passport would be ready in three days, as they only do on the spot if you can prove that you're travelling within two days. I had a friend pick it up for me when it was ready. It took him 10 minutes.

Total cost: $170
