Need a U.S. Passport Immediately?

You should make an appointment to be seen at a Regional Passport Agency only if:

The U.S. passport is needed in less than 2 weeks for international travel
The U.S. passport is needed within 4 weeks to obtain a foreign visa
Contact the National Passport Information Center to make an appointment or locate a Passport Agency.

go to :

http://travel.state.gov/passport/npic/npic_898.html

https://passportappointment.travel.state.gov/

I also made an appointment online. It's a long overdue option. I discovered that new appointments post at midnight, for the newly added day. I waited until midnight, and was able to pick any time I wanted in NY. Game changer.

and make a appointment you will get it the same day or the next day , (depends when you are flying) .

If you need an expedited appointment call l 1-877-487-2778 at 8 AM SHARP EST. Press 1 1 2 2 to speak to a live rep to schedule you an expedited appointment.
Trick is to press the last 2 at 8AM, rather than starting the call at 8AM. I had 2 people try it this morning- one pressed "2" at 8AM and had no hold times and got an appointment for today. The second called at 8AM, had a 30 min wait, and was told that the closest they have available is in VT.

I don't remember the exact dates, but sounds about right.
Thanx. I reread your post. You mailed it a week before 8/20.

No, who needs the post office? I printed out the form online, filled it out and mailed it to the passport office in philly.
Is that just for renewal? How bout a first timer, do they need to appear in person?

so heres an update. i had a boy 2 weeks ago and bh the hospital let me have 10 days from birth to fill in my sons name. which i did on day 9 and the next day had his birth certificate done.

then i called ez passport and they scheduled me for an app at the post office and that cost me 140 + 25 (postal fee) and of course i forgot pictures so +15 (for 2 pictures)  and then i had to take the sealed envelope to somestore in monsey and give them a 100$ check, and the passport will be done in 4 days!

so total was
280 for 4 day service!

Does anyone else have any experience getting a birth certificate and PP very soon after birth?  Does one need a SSN to get a PP?

I was told it can take a few weeks to get the PP.  Can anyone do what you did?  Was it because you showed proof that you were flying and thats why it went so fast?

Is it YMMV with this type of thing?

I got a passport for my son in 5 hours.... ( 1 week post birth)
That was without a birth certificate or social #.... but very costly.
Was with EZ passport.

Update: I received the wrong info.  It took a few weeks for the hospital to issue a birth certificate...not to get a PP.

Applied for my passport at a local PO in NJ on 1/04, got my passport 10 days later on 1/14.
I didn't pay anything extra neither did I write a date of a flight.

i applied for a new passport for my daughter on 1/2- received it yesterday 1/14

i applied to re-new my passport on 1/2- it's coming in the mail today, 1/15

but if i NEEDED it by this time, i would have chosen to pay to expedite it... you never know if it will take longer when you just pay the regular amount. this was just standard processing.
