Long layover in LHR - Lounge options?
« on: July 31, 2012, 05:05:10 PM »
Thinking about booking a flight - economy - through London's Heathrow (LHR) airport.

Flights have a 10 hour layover in London.

Anyone have some good suggestions for a lounge to use?
Do lounges typically let you stay for so long?

I have tons of BA points and was thinking of booking a dummy one way biz ticket to Paris for 10k miles and $25 fee just to get BA lounge access.
Any thoughts on whether that would work to get me lounge access for my layover?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Their website says "If you’re travelling in First, Club World or Club Europe or are a Gold or Silver Executive Club member, you’ll have access to Terminal 5’s exclusive Galleries lounges, sleek contemporary interiors with a touch of uniquely British style...."

https://www.britishairways.com/travel/terminal-5-changes/execclub/_gf/en_us

Biz within Europe on BA is called "Club Europe".

Anyone have any experience with this or other ideas?

If traveling through heathrow and buying a fully refundable ticket then u got to check out the CCR the spa inside is beautiful the massages on offer is great too.
You can book your self a private room (cabana) and have kosher meals ordered there too and not to mention glenlivet 21 on the house :)

What terminal will you be arriving in and departing from?
This will make a difference as to which lounges/alliances you can access.
You can not hop airside between terminals at lhr if you do not have a boarding card for that terminal.
Do you have elite status with an alliance?
You best value for money (if u have no status) instead of wasting 10K and 34 POUNDS ($54- that's how much the club ba reward saver fee is- if even available) is to buy an admirals club pass on ebay for $24.
The admirals club at lhr terminal 3 is one of the best aa lounges and the best value for $24.
You could make the $24 back just by drinking their complimentary single malts!

Can you use the AA passes you get with the Citi cards?
I have those.

I am not flying AA - Is that a problem?
I do have the Amex platinum but no PP as the plat is canceled.

No elite status with any airline worthwhile.

Thanks.

as a side note, anybody ever heard a time limit to hang out in a lounge?

The Admirals day pass will get you into the lounge regardless of what airline you are flying with.

The amex platinum will only get you into the Admirals if you are flying AA.

The amex platinum pp would get you into the Servisair lounge @ lhr but to call servisair "a lounge" is a mistake- not worth walking in the door!

There is no time limit as to how long you can hang out at the lounge but they close at lhr when the last flight of the day leaves which is 8.00pm unless there has been a delay.

ElAl leaves from Terminal 1 and BA from Terminal 5.
AA is terminal 3 and the last flight out is transatlantic at 8.00pm- the aa lounges close right after that flight.

It is interesting that you can not get a transatlantic flight departing from ANYWHERE in europe after 9.00pm!

why do you say so? Please check before you make such confident statements. Just one example, plenty of flights from ZRH to HKG, BKK, JOHANESBURG, after 10pm. Im not going to search all airports now, thats why Im not going to make blanket statements.
