I have never seen any visual damage on my childs car seat. Nor can you honestly say that rough handling of a car seat is close to a bad car crash.
I've seen how they loan and unload it. It's not that much better.

once a car seat has been gate-checked, is it still safe to use? or is it the same as checking it?

Are you talking about checked luggage or gate checked?

I always wondered why this thread is in the trip report section and not in up in the air?

What hotel/area did you stay in and how did you find babysitters?
We stayed at the sheraton universal. when I arrived we got upgraded to the vice presidential suite with spg gold. My wife has a lot of friends in LA so it was no issue finding baby sitters

Emergency!
Flying out in a few hours and running lie in weight available,
When traveling with a baby- are you allowed another bag?
Or and form of extra weight?

Details would help.

IIRC, on my infants ticket it said that he's allowed 1 bag. Check it out.

What are my options if I'm flying domestic on United with a baby? How far can I bring my Graco snap n' go? Will they allow me to bring the car seat on? Is there a way to have them hold an open seat one I get to the airport?

I flew all over and gate checked it. Not sure about bringing it on the plane.

JFK-HKG CX -  better to give the infant their own seat in J or have them as a lap child in F.

Any ideas?

Def own seat. Kid will sleep. Your not going to enjoy F if you have an infant on your lap.

How old is the infant? I'd say it depends on age and how easy it is to have em on you sleeping while you sleep.

May have a better chance of getting an empty seat in F. I was able to put my kid to sleep at the front of the seat when in bed mode. Worked just fine.
