I'm flying Delta with a 7 month old. Tried to reserve a bassinet but the phone rep said its first come first serve to the gate and cant reserve in advance. Is this accurate, or HUCA?

I thought the day of getting a bassinet seat for a lap infant were over ever since most of those seats all became economy plus seats but today a United rep booked me and DW in economy plus EWR-TLV bassinet seats because she said we were travelling with an infant and we did not have to pay any upgrade fee to economy plus; she said she waived approx $450 :)  She said you are entitled to this if you are travelling with a child up to 24 months!

FYI a local travel agent said that airlines do this for infants up to 9 months old; not sure where she got the 9 month age policy

Also, it doesn't help if the travel agent requests a bassinet even if it says confirmed you still have to call.

They always did this.

But isn't a big time YMMV?  I think I remember agents in the past did not want to do this because they said you have to pay for the economy plus upgrade

Some airlines will only allow an infant in the actual bassinet up until 9 months (I had this with BR, not that I wanted the bassinet anyways).

you mean they will let you reserve  bassinet seat up to 24 months but will not allow you to put them in if older than 9 months?

IME I doubt they would even notice or say anything.  If they do maybe you can stuff the diaper bag into carry on

From Delta website:

Quote
Unticketed Infant/Child

If children are traveling for free, they donít have a baggage allowance. So any baggage for the child counts as part of the adult's baggage allowance.

That being said, I doubt this will be enforced at all.
