I have no experience with this yet. I guess you're saying airlines generally allow 2 items, even for 1 child?

we wheeled the infant up to the airplane and then checked it right there
we also were able to check a booster seat at curbside for free along with our other luggage

Separate question:

I have a friend who'll be flying with his wife and baby, EWR-GVA on United. The baby will be around 9 months by the time they fly and he thinks right around 22 lbs. United.com says the bassinets can handle up to 22 lbs, but I've seen elsewhere that it's only for babies 6 months and under. Anyone have experience with United bassinets on this route (or similar). Is it doable for a baby that age/size for an 8-9 hour flight?

Any input is appreciated.

Highly doubtful.

Which part is doubtful, that he'll get a bassinet or that he'll survive the flight with his baby on his lap?

That the bassinet will comfortably fit a 22 pound baby.

They're flying 7/26 (not sure of the return) with UA, EWR-GVA on a 767-300, which is 2-3-2. Is it worthwhile to book the aisles of a 3 in the back of the plane on the chance that they'll be an empty seat? If they did that they probably wouldn't be able to trade for a 2 later because they'd have no window to offer. What would you do?

Also, his parents will be on the flight in business class. Any advantage to having the parents take the baby? Are they more likely to be accommodated in some fashion that way?

Thanks for you help!

I am looking to get something like the Sit n Stroll. I know I can get wheely for my car seat but not sure if its as good. Although it is expensive, I would get it if it is significantly more convenient than my other options. Looking for your ideas on this. Its for a 22lb 17 month baby. I want something that will help her sleep on the plane. And just convenient with all the shlepping.

Thanks

Really hoping to get some good input on this! What is that wheel thing that sells on amazon for the car seat?

Interesting infant issue
« Reply #134 on: July 31, 2012, 09:57:10 PM »
If an infant turns 2 during a trip, that means the infant is under 2 years old on the outbound but will be over 2 years old on the return, then BA allows you to fly as an  "infant in lap fare", without paying for a seat, EVEN for the return.
Does anybody know which (if any) other airlines have this policy?

That's pretty nice. What if your trip is for a month? Is there a time limit?

I remember reading somewhere that with AA if an infant turns 2 after the first leg they'll provide a seat for the rest of the trip.
