anyone know if elal still allowing upgrade to direct flight for $75?

I'm having no luck. Called both call centers half a dozen times. :-/

And... What's their answer?
What do they tell you, when you ask to do the "upgrade"?
What if I just want to change the dates of my flight?
Do they still at least allow free cancellation?

They say they no longer do the upgrade for $75. They are happy to upgrade me to direct, but I would have to pay whatever the fare difference is. I assume that would be the same for date change.

Yep, I just called twice.  Same story..  They'll gladly upgrade, for an additional $1000!
Re. free cancellations, that's over too, and it now costs the regular $250!

In both instances, a supervisor was consulted, FWIW.

Why are they playing this now?  Are they gonna lose any less money now, with me flying on their partners?  What changed?

Oh well, their loss (and mine too   ).

just an fyi, as hakaras hatov to ELAL i chose not to take the American points option and only put in my matmid number. they of course gave 100 points for each way of the direct flights to/from israel, and then removed them for an unexplained upgrade on the flight (so if u enter your elal matmid number instead of American, you will get 0 miles/points).

what's your problem? they gave me and honored a great deal that allowed me and the fam to go to israel (which we would otherwise not do for like 20 years). To be clear, I have nothing against people who got points on this, i just personally felt extra appreciation (kinda lifnim mishuras hadin) after they encouraged me to go and enjoy when they in theory could have tried to cancel. U guys are DDF royalty, so i don't mean to offend, but i'm sure you guys give tips all the time for people who do a great job/provide great service. is this so weird?

In my case, I guess they found out who I was, and I now have a negative balance of -100 matmid points.....

I did fly with my glitch tickets, and I'm not sure if they actually knew, but for some reason, I have -100 matmid points. I'm not sure what it actually means, but I'm not worried about it...
