Interesting .... Seems like they'd rather if people were on non-stop flights. Does that mean that this fiasco is costing El Al more because they have to compensate American and other connecting airlines?

Hullo, guess what this means?? Maybe you can change dates!! That's why they waited for a bunch of people to cancel first!!!!!!

You can definitely change time of day once you're switching to a direct flight, but I wonder if they will now let you change dates. The rational would be that they would rather you fly on their metal so they might be willing to accommodate!

I booked a Toronto relative flights from JFK-TLV. Think they'll let me switch it to YYZ-TLV direct?

yes

if you switch to direct, they pocket another 150, save having to pay a share to the other airlines
and you get an extra day in the holy land

Part of the monetary loss that EL-AL will be suffering is paying the codeshare airline for their portion of the trip (or whatever form of bartering they have), it may be in EL-AL's interest to offer to convert the flights to non-stop flights on ELAL metal for a nominal fee ($100 a ticket), I would definitely sign up for that.. Your thoughts?

Right now you can earn mileage, if they change the ticket will they assign a special fare basis that doesn't allow mileage accrual?

What other restrictive fare rules will apply to a changed ticket?

I don't think anyone should change the ticket until they know.
