you should be able to get united on swiss - just before you leave ZRH by the gate ask them to add your united number - just make sure to take it off for your return flight.
not sure if this works but its worth a try

When they wrote the article how they didn't post the deal they said they "reached out to Elal" meaning they called the regular 800 number, waited on hold for probably over an hour at that point, and asked some clueless CSR.

They won't give me United points even though it's SWiss MEtal because it's booked as ELAL. Learned the hard way.

I have to go check back on my old flights. I vaguely remember having problems and them denying it for some reason.

im really annoyed, booked 3 tickets, then realised that because of the 2hr stopover in switzerland i would land in israel an hr and a half before shabbos, so i cancelled all of them, and now it seems that i could have upgraded my ticket to nonstop for only $75

IMO, it's highly unlikely the LY will be giving any mileage if you upgrade to non-stop. Still a great deal, but I'm just sayin
