You can buy CX JFK-YVR, because it's not exclusively in the US

People should start emailing them now....El Al just posted this on their facebook account:
"Passengers have until 8/31 to upgrade to non-stop travel from NYC (JFK or Newark) or LA for an additional $75 each way. Email flydirect@elalusa.com to upgrade or for questions and we will begin responding on 8/14."

I love how they play games, they obviously are not sure yet what they are doing. They will gauge the response and then decide on the 14th how to deal with it (especially individual requests etc..).

I booked 3 tickets plus an infant, then realized that at this price it's worth it for me to buy a ticket for the infant. I made a separate reservation for the infant, put in a random birthday year so the booking would go through. Do I need to fix anything or will they not check her birthday? is there any way to combine the reservations and change her birthday?

As an hakoras hatov to Elal perhaps we can all 'like' their facebook page or follow them on twitter, they are trying to cash in on this free PR by following everyone and their uncle on twitter hoping for a follow back. It would be nice that when they go back to assess the damage, they will say at least we got "5000 likes", likes have a value (very low, but real live like's vs. fake indian likes are always better..)

birthday is for the tsa - so you could fix that at the airport technically

They will check her birthday, you should be able to change the birthdate online or by calling ElAl at any time. There is no way to combine reservations but if you call them you should be able to have them put a note in saying that you are traveling together.

They lost $millions with this mistake, a few thousand FB likes is worth much much much less than that. If they wanted all these FB likes they could giveaway a few free tickets and they'll get there in no time.
