I think Elal may have pulled a fast one on us and the fares arent really booked into W. Pull up your booking on Elal's website and switch the tab to e-Ticket receipt. You should see "Tour code: *NYC06AUG12" which I'm guessing they grouped this whole botch-up as if its one big "group rate". And lower down on the page it says by the actual flight info "Fare basis: GLAAUSA" and the way back the Fare basis is "NLAAUSA" which I'm guessing corresponds to G and N which is what I was booked on for my stopover yielding only 50%. I'm just thinking that maybe the "W" that we all saw we were booked in was just for them to search for availability in their systems, and the miles are actually going to accrue for G and N fares.

OK i found it, but it wont let me put my AA club number as the ELAL number is there, do i have to first remove the elal one from the elal site?

and how about the direct elal flight. will that show up on AA as well?

From Mishpacha magazine

How Dan Dealt
By Rachel Bachrach | Tuesday, August 14, 2012 It all started last Monday morning, when Daniel Eleff noticed a post on his website’s forum about super-cheap flights to Israel. The $330-price looked pretty incredible, so Daniel, who runs the popular bargain site Dan’s Deals, tested it out and posted it to his main page and social media site. It was then sent to 5,000 subscribers, many of whom get text messages with updates.

From there, the news spread like wildfire: El Al flights between November and March from several cities in America, including New York, were going for less than $400 on some sites. Getting the airline’s winter special at $800 is a good deal – it’s usually closer to $900 or $1000 – so this was indeed a bargain.
Within about an hour, Dan’s Deals was flooded. The site usually gets 30,000 hits daily, but on Monday, so many people — 135,000, to be exact — visited for information and updates, his server couldn’t handle the traffic and he had to take it down.

“It just snowballed,” the 27-year-old Cleveland resident says with a grin.

El Al hasn’t confirmed the number, but rumor has it that more than 5,000 tickets were booked via Expedia, Orbitz, and other agencies. Daniel booked tickets for Pesach. (He ended up cancelling them because the trip didn’t work with his schedule.) Daniel also booked two flights for his Israeli contractor, one for a visit, another for Yom Tov. “I called him over right away,” Daniel says. “Right now he’s very happy he’s working for me!”

He knows someone who called El Al and told a manager he felt bad taking advantage of the price. “The manager told him, ‘Don’t worry about it, enjoy Eretz Yisrael.’ ” Later, hundreds of people posted that they had booked, some for 25 family members to attend a well-timed simchah.

recently, United airlines offered first class tickets to Hong Kong, for only four miles instead of the usual 16,000.

El Al didn't pull a fast one anyone. They never told you it would earn full mileage. Actually someone posted earlier and specifically said they said it wouldn't.

My email says I was booked into W while online that doesn't seem to be the case. To me that's deceiving. I would have thought twice before spending 450 for 3 people.

You are correct NLAAUSA corresponds to N class
which means we only get 50% not 100% on AA

You got your email before you decided to change?
Others have and reported it here. And yes i did partially base my decisioin because of the extra miles.

I'm sorry that that happened to you, but to blame it on El Al is silly. They have been nothing but nice about this

Not denying that. But they did carefully think this out so they could minimize their losses. And I think many people changed the flight based on the assumption that it would earn 100%. At the very least I wouldve cacelled my infant in seat ticket which ended up costing $500

Agreed, as well they should. you had no right to earn full miles on this flight and to say that El Al pulled the the wool over your eyes is IME being a Kafuy tov

I'm not angry at elal,  but I think people should be aware that the $75 fee to change will not yield 100% , that's all. And I think if people would have known that prior, some would have left the flight unchanged.

Me thinks the fare has rules of limited availability and books up quicker then the others so they limited us to those batches of seats..but who knows.
